I’m not sure who learned more this weekend, my 10-year-old daughter or I.

We attended the Mother Daughter Red Tent workshop .

As we sat in a circle on cozy pillows, we celebrated, honoured and connected over what our bodies can do. We learned about puberty and periods and about nurturing an allyship between us at this time in our lives.

The end of the workshop meant the beginning of new language between us.

We sat in the cozy kitchen slowly wrapping sticks with yarn of all colours and textures as asked me, “What brings you awe?”

“Brights colours” I said as I wound blue and yellow and green.

The fiery stick is about intention. I thought about the new home I am determined to find for my daughter and I with more space, more greenery, more light.

Thank you Pamela for this precious pocket of slowness.

What my kiddo and I love about flying our kites at Woodbine Beach:

The tension from the string when you pull

Staring at the sky for hours

How the seagulls fly close

“It’s chillaxing.”

Coffee in mama’s thermos

Ice cream breaks

That somehow deep concentration and no concentration are required

Calling all weary urban dwellers!

The wwoofing season is here.

Wwoofing stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. In exchange for room and board, volunteers provide labour that a small farm could not otherwise afford. Win-win.

My kiddo and I had the pleasure of staying and are richer for it.

As my daughter chased chickens and played in the hay with her new friends, mama got to plant corn and black beans and sunflowers and amaranth and edamame.

There were pigs to feed and eggs to collect.

Best of all, I got to sip strong coffee with farmers Myriam and Rony.

Today’s office is in my mom’s backyard.

Finding outdoor nooks to be, to work, to write has become so vital in my congested, concrete neighbourhood.

If you know of a space…a backyard, a hidden gem coffee shop, a courtyard…please let me know! Looking for some greenery and sunshine with wifi!

Happy to contribute some gardening and I make good coffee!

Continuing to emerge out of isolation…finding the mic again at an open mic night .

From thoughts in my head, to talking about it, to putting words on the page. To rewriting again and again and again. To reading it out out.

I love this torturous process.

Ah what to write…

Stopped in at a laundromat for shelter from the rain. My kiddo noticed that each machine had a name. So mama got to work as she called them out.

Simply documenting what’s right in front of me is a part of my writing practice.

With these pockets of slowness, I feel my nervous system recalibrate.

Rain. The woosh of the washing machine. My kid sounding out names.

That’s good stuff.
