While the principal components of a healthy diet are near universal (like eat fruits and veges), novel research suggests practitioners can give more personalized recommendations based on genetics 🧬
🤔 Have you ever wondered if:
☕️ Caffiene increases your risk of heart disease?
🧂 How significant salt is to your blood pressure?
☀️ Are you at increased risk of insufficient Vitamin D?
Variations in our DNA can give insights into providing more nuanced dietary interventions. That is why I am excited to partner with to offer genetic testing with a nutrition lense 🔍

A growing body of evidence suggests that there are nutrition interventions that can implemented in the management of concussions. This post highlights the only human trial to date that looks at the use of creatine in combination with normal treatments on several outcomes after a traumatic brain injury.
Highlights:
Sekallaris et al., 2006 recruited 39 children and adolescents between the ages of 1-18 years. They were randomly assigned to recieve 0.4 g/kg of creatine daily for 6-months or nothing. Participants who recieved creatine had to recieve their first dose within 4 hours of injury.
At both 3 and 6 months, the creatine group saw significant improvements in cognitive, social, and behavioral outcomes compared to the control group.
Limitations of study:
➡️ Small sample size
➡️ Wide age range (1-18 years)
➡️ Only human trial to date
➡️ Unclear if dosage is optimal for creatine uptake in the 🧠
This pilot study as well as several animal based studies suggests that creatine may play a roll in concussion recovery however more research is required in humans across different dosages, ages, and treatment times.

There are many evidenced based therapies that help to reduce the severity and recovery time of concussions. A growing body of research suggests that Docosahexanoic acid (DHA), a type of Omega-3 also plays a roll.
