The FDA is finally updating its black box warning on hormone therapy — after 20+ years! 🙌

The old warning was slapped on all estrogen treatments (pills, patches, creams & vaginal estrogen) and scared millions away from relief they truly needed.
I strongly believe that if my mother was given the option to take hormones through perimenopause and beyond, she would not be blind, non verbal, non mobile and in a wheelchair with stage 7 Alzheimer’s. Fear stopped her and many others.

👉 New changes are expected soon — not just for vaginal estrogen, but for other forms too.
👉 Experts say the old warning was outdated and overly broad.

As a naturopathic doctor & HRT prescriber, I see how the right hormones, at the right time, can be life-changing. This is a huge step forward for women’s health 🌿✨

As estrogen levels shift during perimenopause and menopause, many women notice changes in their skin — dryness, loss of firmness, fine lines, and slower healing. 🌿

There are both hormonal and non-hormonal ways to support healthy, radiant skin during this time:

💧 Foundational support
– A high-quality hyaluronic acid serum and moisturizer for hydration (I use “the ordinary company” brand)
– Topical antioxidants (like vitamin C or niacinamide) to protect collagen
– Daily sun protection ☀️(SP 50)
-Sufficient hydration (Sip water throughout the day rather than excess amounts all at once…)

🌸 Targeted options
For some women, we may also consider low-dose estriol face cream, a bioidentical form of estrogen applied topically to support collagen, elasticity, and skin thickness. This is a prescription-only option, used selectively under medical guidance.

For fun I am sharing a 2023 recap with you so you can get to know me a little better as a human outside of my role as a doctor:

Reflecting on 2023:

My biggest life lessons:
-How to live through and heal from chronic pain and insomnia from chronic pain.
-Learning how to set boundaries.  
-Life is short so thrive today, not tomorrow. (My mom who has severe, stage 7 Alzheimer’s who has lost all mental faculties and physical independence is a constant reminder of this).
-Life always comes with chaos.  What matters is how we respond to the chaos that comes our way as individuals and making sure to have a strong foundation (aka follow a healthy lifestyle) to have the mental fortitude to manage the curve balls thrown our way.  

Biggest lifestyle changes I made this year:
-More weight training for better bone health and spine protection as a peri-menopausal woman.
-Moving through life consciously slower.
-Cutting flour and doubling my greens for carbs for less inflammation and better insulin sensitivity and to avoid abdominal weight gain through peri-menopause as a woman with PCOS.

Biggest health obstacle that I healed from this year:
-Severe Stenosis (blockage) of C5/C6, causing pinched nerve, chronic pain and vertigo…lasting 6+ months! I gained major empathy for those in chronic pain with this one!!

Proudest naturopathic doctor accomplishments:
-Getting certified as a North American Menopause (NAMS) Practitioner.  
-Realizing I have recorded 3 years of evidence based but fun and light health and wellness podcasts with my amazing podcast partner . If you haven’t already signed up to listen to our podcast; click linktree above to tune in and stay motivated in between visits.

Seeing my patients…
-Lose and maintain significant weight loss…

Today marks the day that our 5’2” tall, 10 year old boy woke up with the same foot size as me. I have a woman’s foot size of 9!!!

I remember seeing these sweet feet 👣 for the first time a fetal ultrasound 11 years ago and then being able to hold these precious feet for the first time at his birth. Grateful every day for these little-big feet.
