The only function of a school is to make self-education easier; failing that, it does nothing. What's more, formal education stops; self-education never does.

A prolific biochemist and author, most famous for his science fiction. He was a passionate advocate for rational thought and lifelong learning, viewing formal education as merely the foundation for a never-ending personal quest for knowledge.
This redefines the goal of education. It is not the transfer of information, but the equipping of a student with the tools, curiosity, and discipline to become their own teacher for the rest of their life.
