CALL FOR ARTISTS - Inclusive Art Canvas

Background - East End Community Health Centre (East End CHC) provides primary care, health promotion and disease prevention services to the south-eastern quadrant of central Toronto. The Centre's approach aims to improve inclusion, equity and access, with a focus on those experiencing barriers to care due to factors such as race, ethnicity, income, gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, disability, language, or lack of housing or health insurance.

East End CHC is currently looking for a skilled artist to design and complete a 5x8 foot canvas that represents our commitment to inclusivity, equity, accessibility, health and wellness. The canvas will be a permanent fixture in the Centre’s main reception area for clients and community members to enjoy for years to come (see photo of reception area below).

Eligibility
• Experience with design, ex*****on and mounting of large canvas art projects
• Experience creating art that represents inclusion and diversity is an asset
• A connection to East End Toronto is an asset

Budget (Design stage)
• $250 - Two to three shortlisted candidates will be selected to provide their proposed comprehensive design for the project

Budget (Design revisions, ex*****on and mounting 5x8 foot canvas art work)
• $5,000 – includes three design revisions and artist fee to execute and mount the final 5x8 foot canvas art piece. Additional compensation available to cover the cost of materials.

Your Artist’s Proposal
• A brief Artist Statement and description of your artwork / process
• A brief description of your connection (if any) East End Toronto
• A brief description of your experience creating art that represents inclusion and diversity (if applicable)
• 3-5 examples of previous works
• An Artist CV (an asset)
• A creative proposal, consisting of:
o Timeline
o Comprehensive Budget (supplies, artist fees, installation fees, etc.)
o Canvas Proposal Summary – please include a description of the aspects you would include in your design, taking into consideration the themes of community, inclusion, diversity, accessibility, health and wellness
o A rough sketch of your design idea would be an asset

Process
• Deadline for initial artist submissions is March 29, 2026
• Shortlisted artists will be asked to submit their proposed design idea by April 15th
• Final artist selection will be announced by April 27, 2026
• Project completion and delivery deadline: May 29, 2026
• Applicants will be selected through consultation with East End CHC’s interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers, clients and board of directors

East End Community Health Centre provides primary care, health promotion and disease prevention services to the south-eastern quadrant of central Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

A unique aspect of our mandate is to reach out to people in our community who may have difficulty accessing health care due to factors such as language, culture, poverty, or the lack of health insurance.

We focus on the whole person in our approach and recognize that factors such as income, education, relationships and housing play a role in physical and mental health.
