Our Values Are:
• Equality – Treating everyone as equals by providing people the same opportunities, rights and status
• Equity – Understanding that different people face different barriers; helping to provide each person with support tailored to their individual situation so they are able to enjoy full, healthy lives. We make all efforts to adapt the experience to the needs of the participant.
• Inclusion – Ensuring policies and practices are in effect to enable people with physical disabilities to participate in recreation, sport and social activities.
• Autonomy – The right to determine one’s own life and to make independent decisions.
• Interdependence – People are meant to work together; when we depend on one another, we are able to accomplish more and live fuller, more meaningful lives.

As of December 21, the winter solstice, days will start to become longer!
The winter solstice occurs when Earth’s tilted axis positions one of its poles at the farthest point away from the Sun.
In the Northern Hemisphere, this moment culminates on December 21 with a period of reduced daylight, longer nighttime, and the lowest position of the Sun in the sky.
It is also a significant turning point, as the length of daylight begins to increase following the solstice.

For Indigenous peoples, the winter solstice is a time to honour natural cycles and seasonal patterns. First Nations around the Great Lakes consider the winter solstice a time for animals and plants to rest and a time for people to replenish their spirit, through reflection and storytelling around the fire.

Celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)!
Equity in life means providing everyone with what they need to succeed. It differs from equality, which treats everyone the same way. Equity involves fairness and justice, addressing barriers and providing differential support to achieve equal outcomes, such as giving adapted resources to those who need them to level the playing field.

December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), a day proclaimed by the United Nations to promote the rights, dignity, and well-being of people with disabilities worldwide. The day is used to raise awareness about disability issues and the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society.

An estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us.
The leadership of persons with disabilities is epitomised by the global disability rights movement’s slogan “Nothing About Us Without Us”. It connotes the basic requirements of participation, representation and inclusion and calls for persons with disabilities to actively shape the conditions of their lives.

Had the pleasure of spending time with good friends at the Melo-Craft Open House Wednesday, October 29th at their showroom in Mississauga (Royal-Windsor Drive). Melo-Craft is a supporter of Able Sail Toronto, and from this comes great friendships - Jeff Beitz (Suzuki), Daniel Melo and Glenn Lethbridge of Melo-Craft.
What a joy when dear friends Irene McNeill (International Race Officer, Race Management Master Course Conductor) and Neil McNeill (Club Race officer, Club Judge) walked in the door!
And yes, that is the Able Sail Toronto safety boat in the background!

The Great Lakes Cleanup is inspired by with the Clean Oceans program, we believe wholeheartedly in protecting the environment that gives us so much joy.
In conjunction with the Toronto Marine Police, we did a cleanup, we got to see and partake in the processes that TMP uses for diver down, and they were an absolute privilege to work with. I've added captions for each photo.
Visibility was only 1 foot. Depth at the sea wall was 17 feet and only 5 feet into the gap it dropped to 27 feet.
They had a screen on board where they could see what the diver saw, and could communicate verbally on the discoveries.
3 divers did the in water, rotating.
What an amazing day it was and we'll be doing it again next year, same time, mark it in your calendar for 2026!
