Psychotherapy In The City Making Sense Together: Individual & Couple Psychotherapist. Registered Psychotherapist, Relationship Expert & Life Coach. Everyone’s story is different.

Making Sense Together: Individual Counselling
I work with people on understanding themselves, being more self aware and their relationship with others. I do this by working with my clients in discovering patterns, understanding their organizing principals and themselves with others. People come to see me for many reasons. Some might be feeling stuck, dealing with a tough moment in their life and need someone to listen to them and help make sense of what is happening for them. Everyone's story is different. I can help. Some of the areas of my work:
Depression & Anxiety
Addictions
Relationship Counseling
Unresolved Childhood Issues
Self Worth Issues (inner and outer self image)
Mental Health Concerns
Career and/or Big life Changes
First Time Partent Anxieties
Infertility Issues
LGBT Issues
Loss & Grief

Working With Couples to Building a Stronger Connection: Working with couples is about understanding both individuals and how they come together. My job is to help you navigate through your relationship and help you both feel more connected throughout communication and intimacy. Parent Counselling: A deeper self-understanding can help you raise children to thrive. Parent Therapy is a good practice to understand your own experiences and feelings around life and parenting and how this may impact your child. For expecting parents as well.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell what you’re feeling whether it’s stress, anxiety, or a mix of both.

Stress often comes and goes with life’s demands. Anxiety can feel more constant, lingering even when things seem “fine” on the outside. Both are valid. Both can feel overwhelming.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. So many people are quietly carrying more than they should have to.

Have you ever caught yourself saying things like this in therapy?

You’re not alone and it’s totally normal! Therapy is a safe space to share even the thoughts that feel messy, silly, or too small. ✨

We had to join the trend… but in our defense, therapists were busy asking about everyone’s childhood long before it was cool.

There’s something really special about seeing people as kids. You can spot the same person in there, the same spark, the same essence just smaller, with questionable haircuts and even bigger feelings 🥰

It’s a gentle reminder that we all started out soft, curious, and a little vulnerable. In many ways, we’re still those kids… just navigating adult life, responsibilities, and the occasional existential question.

Looking back like this is a nice little compassion exercise, for ourselves and for everyone around us.

Comment your guess! Who do you think is in the first picture and who is in the second?

Every relationship goes through seasons. The spark in a marriage doesn’t usually disappear overnight, it often fades when connection gets lost in the busyness of everyday life.

Small moments of intention can make a big difference: meaningful conversations, trying something new together, expressing appreciation, and creating time to truly connect.

If you’ve been feeling distant from your partner, it might be the perfect moment to pause and reconnect.

Stigma around substance use keeps too many people suffering in silence.

When someone struggles with substance use, the conversation often shifts from compassion to judgment. Labels like “addict” or assumptions about willpower can make people feel ashamed, isolated, and less likely to seek the support they deserve. But substance use challenges are not a moral failure, they are complex experiences influenced by mental health, trauma, stress, environment, and biology.

We believe healing begins with understanding. When we replace judgment with empathy, we create space for honest conversations, meaningful support, and real change.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with substance use, know this: you are not alone, and help is available. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. 💬

Let’s work together to reduce stigma and create a community where people feel safe asking for help. Book your session with Cory Goodine here: https://www.psychotherapyinthecity.com/cory

Your mental health isn’t built on big, once-in-a-while changes, it’s shaped by the small things you do every day.

Simple habits can help you become more aware of your emotions, release stress, and build healthier relationships with yourself and others.

✨ Name your feelings: Identifying what you’re feeling can help you process emotions instead of pushing them away.
✨ Move your body: Even a short walk or gentle stretch can boost mood and reduce stress.
✨ Journal your thoughts: Writing things down can create clarity and help you understand patterns in your mind.
✨ Set boundaries: Protecting your time and energy is an important form of self-care.
✨ Ask for support: You don’t have to navigate everything alone.

Small steps, practiced consistently, can make a meaningful difference in your mental wellbeing.

Supporting children’s mental health early in life is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in their future.

When children feel safe expressing their emotions, learn healthy coping skills, and know they’re supported, they build resilience that lasts a lifetime.

In a vibrant and diverse city like Toronto, kids face many different experiences and pressures, at school, at home, and in their communities. Creating nurturing environments, encouraging open conversations, and teaching simple emotional regulation strategies can make a lasting difference.

At our Toronto clinic, we’re here to support families every step of the way with compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to your child’s unique needs.

Healthy minds start early and we’re here to help them grow.

Have you ever noticed that some days you feel anxious, restless, or overwhelmed… and other days you feel numb, exhausted, or completely shut down?

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone and there’s nothing “wrong” with you.

These shifts are nervous system responses to stress. When life feels overwhelming (especially with ongoing stress or past trauma), our bodies move into protective states:

• Hyperarousal → fight-or-flight (anxiety, irritability, racing thoughts)
• Hypoarousal → freeze or shutdown (numbness, disconnection, low energy)

Both are adaptive. Both are your nervous system trying to protect you.

Understanding the difference is powerful.
Because the support you need when you’re anxious is different from what you need when you’re shut down.

When you begin to recognize your patterns, you can:
✨ Replace self-blame with self-understanding
✨ Learn tools that match your nervous system state
✨ Feel more grounded and present
✨ Expand your capacity to cope

Healing doesn’t happen through pushing yourself harder.
It happens through safety, awareness, and support.

If you’re in Toronto and noticing cycles of overwhelm or shutdown, we’re here to help.

Do you ever feel foggy, lethargic, and numb? Or like your emotions go from 0 to 100 in seconds and once you’re upset, it’s almost impossible to calm down?

Emotional dysregulation doesn’t only show up as intense reactions. It can also look like feeling flat, disconnected, or disoriented from your body. For some people, emotions feel overwhelming and explosive. For others, they feel distant, muted, or shut down.

Emotional dysregulation can feel confusing and even shame-inducing. Many people blame themselves for being “too sensitive,” “too reactive,” or “unmotivated.” The truth is, emotional regulation isn’t something we’re simply born knowing how to do — it’s a skill shaped by our experiences, environment, and nervous system.

When your system has been under chronic stress, trauma, or ongoing pressure, it can stay in fight-or-flight (or shutdown) mode. That makes emotions feel bigger, faster, harder to manage or sometimes barely accessible at all.

The good news: change is possible.
With the right support, you can learn to understand your patterns, reconnect with your body, and respond to emotions in ways that feel more grounded and in control.

If you’re in Toronto and struggling with intense or numb emotions, our psychotherapy team is here to help. 💛
