We’re proud to share that SE Health's COO, Nancy Lefebre, joined AM800 to discuss our new partnership with Hospice Palliative Care Ontario and what it means for the future of volunteer education in hospice care.

This collaboration reflects Saint Elizabeth Foundation’s commitment to equity-informed, trauma-aware training that responds to the realities of today’s communities.

As Nancy shared, strengthening volunteer education strengthens the capacity of communities to deliver compassionate, dignified end-of-life care.

At Journey Home Hospice, a program of Saint Elizabeth Foundation, we are committed to strengthening end-of-life care by investing in the people and systems that make compassionate care possible.

Through the work of our National Centre for Equity and Innovation in End-of-Life Care, we are proud to partner with Hospice Palliative Care Ontario to advance a renewed approach to hospice volunteer education across Ontario and nationally.

Together with SE Health , we were pleased to join Rick Firth in marking this important collaboration.

Hospice volunteers play a vital role in supporting individuals and families at the end of life. As communities and care needs evolve, volunteer education must reflect today’s realities — including structural inequities, cultural diversity, trauma, and complex grief.

Saint Elizabeth Foundation is investing in the redevelopment of Hospice Palliative Care Ontario’s volunteer education program to ensure it is equity-informed, trauma-aware, and accessible. This work will support modernized training content, new courses on structural vulnerability and grief and bereavement, an enhanced digital learning platform, and a national framework to help expand equitable access to hospice palliative care across Canada.

Equity in palliative care is essential. By strengthening volunteer education, we strengthen the capacity of communities to respond with compassion, dignity, and justice.

Music is more than a pastime. It can reduce anxiety, spark memory and create connection.

Here at Saint Elizabeth Foundation | Journey Home Hospice, one of our priorities is investing in therapeutic and recreational programming that honours the whole person.

Activities like piano lessons create space for expression, dignity and meaningful engagement throughout each individual’s journey.

At Saint Elizabeth Foundation | Journey Home Hospice, we’re reminded every day that family isn’t defined by one shape. It can be relatives, friends, caregivers, volunteers, and community members who offer presence and support.

Today, we celebrate families in all their forms and the care and compassion they make possible.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Family Day!

At Saint Elizabeth Foundation | Journey Home Hospice, everyday moments matter.

Whether it’s a game of cards, a shared laugh, or simply spending time together, activities are part of how we care.

Alongside medical support, we create space for connection, comfort, and dignity each day.

Because even at the end of life, there is still room for joy, companionship, and meaningful moments.

We’re proud to share that Fr. Dr. Matthew Durham, a University of Windsor alumnus (BA ’05), has been appointed Executive Director of Saint Elizabeth Foundation and is featured in a recent University of Windsor article.

The story highlights his leadership in launching the Saint Elizabeth Foundation National Centre for Equity and Innovation in End-of-Life Care and our commitment to strengthening compassionate, community-based hospice palliative care for people facing significant barriers to access.

It also reflects on the impact of Journey Home Hospice Windsor and how dignity at the end of life should be a universal right. As he shares in the article, “Our work combines lived experience and evidence to support care models that meet people where they are and respond to complex life circumstances.”

Saint Elizabeth Foundation was pleased to welcome MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam to Journey Home Hospice Toronto for what was truly a wonderful and energizing visit.

She spent meaningful time with the Saint Elizabeth Foundation | Journey Home Hospice team, learning more about our model of compassionate hospice and palliative care, listening closely to the stories behind our work, and engaging thoughtfully with staff and volunteers. Most moving of all, she took the time to meet with patients who had specifically asked to see her, offering her presence, warmth, and genuine connection. That meant so much to them and to all of us.

We are grateful for her strong support of community-based hospice care and for leaders who understand the importance of dignity, equity, and comfort at the end of life. Partnerships and advocacy like this help ensure that everyone has access to the care they deserve.

Thank you for standing with Saint Elizabeth Foundation and the communities we serve. Together, we are building a more compassionate system of care.
