Act #79 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Moorelands Kids 🎄❤️

For many years now, our team has come together each holiday season to support Moorelands Kids, helping provide a brighter Christmas for an underprivileged family and their children.

Through the generosity of our employees, we collect donations internally and use those funds to thoughtfully purchase gifts that are then delivered to Moorelands. From there, the gifts are shared with a deserving family—helping ensure that the holiday season includes moments of joy, excitement, and care.

This annual tradition is one that means a great deal to us. It’s a reflection of the kindness, compassion, and generosity that our team brings not only to the families we serve professionally, but also to the wider community we are proud to be part of.

We’re incredibly grateful to our staff for continuing this tradition year after year, and to Moorelands Kids for the important work they do supporting children and families in our city.

📸 Included are a few photos of the gifts collected, along with some of our team members dropping them off to Moorelands.

Act #78 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Candlelight Service of Remembrance at St. Demetrius the Great Martyr 🕯️

On Thursday, December 4th, we held our second Candlelight Service of Remembrance of the season — a meaningful opportunity for families and community members to honour those they continue to hold in their hearts, especially as we enter the holiday season.

This service took place at St. Demetrius the Great Martyr Parish, where the liturgy offered a quiet and prayerful space for reflection, comfort, and remembrance.

Our Cardinal team was honoured to welcome those in attendance, provide candles and commemorative ornaments, and offer support simply by being present with the families we’ve had the privilege to serve. After the service, we gathered for refreshments and conversation, creating a gentle moment of connection at the end of a reflective evening.

This annual tradition remains one of the most meaningful ways we come together as a community — united in remembrance, compassion, and hope.

📸 Below are a few photos from the evening capturing its warmth and peaceful spirit.

Act #77 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Make A Will Month Seminar 📝❤️

Last Tuesday, November 26th, we were proud to host our Make A Will Month Seminar at the BMO Education Centre inside Toronto Western Hospital. This free, two-hour community event brought together attendees eager to learn, plan ahead, and feel more secure about some of life’s most important decisions.

Throughout the evening, our six expert presenters shared valuable guidance on topics including:
• The importance of having a will
• Estate and tax planning
• Planning for health and personal care
• Body and organ donation
• Awake Soil and environmentally thoughtful options for ashes
• Funeral pre-planning and preparing for the future

The seminar was a tremendous success — warm, informative, and deeply appreciated by everyone who attended. We know that conversations about wills, end-of-life choices, and planning ahead can feel overwhelming or even a little frightening, which is why we believe so strongly in offering accessible, supportive education to help people navigate these decisions with clarity and confidence.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to the six incredible experts who generously shared their knowledge, as well as to Cindy Ciampa and our entire pre-planning team, whose thoughtful preparation and hard work made the evening run so smoothly.

📸 Below are a few photos from the event, featuring our presenters, attendees, and the Cardinal team who helped make the night both meaningful and memorable.

Act #76 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Samaritan’s Purse & Operation Christmas Child 🎁❤️🌍

For many years, we’ve been honoured to serve as a drop-off centre for Samaritan's Purse Canada and their incredible initiative, Operation Christmas Child — a program that sends lovingly packed shoeboxes to children in need around the world.

This year, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, we collected 1,270 shoeboxes at our Annette Street location. Each box was packed with care, filled with gifts and essentials, and prepared with the hope of bringing joy to a child who may otherwise go without this Christmas.

Once the boxes were gathered, our team — with a VERY full van courtesy of Max — delivered them to Samaritan’s Purse so they can begin their journey across the globe.

But our involvement didn’t stop there. Two of our wonderful team members — Aaron and Jessica (who are also married!) — volunteered their time this past weekend at the Operation Christmas Child sorting centre, along with their daughter D’Arcy. Together, they helped inspect and prepare thousands of boxes to ensure each one is ready to be delivered safely and joyfully to its destination before Christmas.

For us, this act of kindness is especially meaningful because we’ve seen the impact firsthand. A few years ago, Jessica travelled with Samaritan’s Purse to Costa Rica, personally delivering shoeboxes to children and witnessing the happiness and hope these small gifts can bring. We’ve included a few of her photos from that mission, which help show the real, human impact behind every single box donated.

Samaritan’s Purse continues to touch millions of lives each year, offering not just gifts, but joy, dignity, and love to children living in some of the world’s most vulnerable conditions. We are grateful to play even a small role in supporting their mission — and deeply proud of our team and community for their continued kindness and generosity.

📸 Below are photos of:
• Hundreds of shoeboxes dropped off at our Annette location
• Max delivering a VERY full van
• Aaron, Jessica, and D’Arcy volunteering at the sorting centre
• Jessica’s meaningful trip to Costa Rica with Operation Christmas Child

Thank you to everyone who contributed — your kindness will brighten Christmas for children around the world.

Act #75 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Magellan’s 2nd Annual Brick by Brick Gala 🧱💛

This past weekend, we were proud to attend and support the Magellan Community Charities’ 2nd Annual Brick by Brick Gala — a sold-out event with more than 2,000 attendees, all united in raising funds for the new Magellan Centre, a long-term care home being built for Portuguese-speaking seniors in Toronto.

Three members of our Cardinal team — Kim Silva-Kellam, Jimmy Cardinal, and Cindy Ciampa — were in attendance, with Cindy also volunteering her time on the gala’s fundraising committee to help plan and organize this extraordinary evening.

In addition to attending the event, we were pleased to donate a pair of Toronto Maple Leafs tickets to the silent auction, helping raise even more funds for this deeply important project.

Supporting Magellan and the Portuguese-Canadian community is something we are wholeheartedly committed to. Earlier this year, we proudly pledged $100,000 in honour of our 100th anniversary toward the construction of the Magellan Centre — a vital investment in compassionate care, dignity, and community for seniors.

Guests were also treated to an unforgettable performance by The Tenors, whose music added even more magic to an already incredible evening. ✨

We’re excited to share a few photos from the night, along with a video from Magellan Community Foundation highlighting the tremendous progress being made as they work toward opening the new centre in 2027.

Act #74 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Candlelight Service of Remembrance at St. Agnes Church 🕯️

On Monday, November 24th, we held the first of our two Candlelight Services of Remembrance—an annual tradition that brings together families, friends, and community members to honour and remember those we have lost over the past year, as well as others we continue to hold close in our hearts.

This year’s service took place at St. Agnes Church, where Fr. André de Lima celebrated a beautiful Mass attended by hundreds. It was a heartfelt evening of reflection, comfort, and togetherness—offering support and peace as we enter the holiday season.

Many members of our Cardinal team were on hand to greet families, distribute candles and special ornaments, and share in conversation and refreshments after the Mass. Seeing familiar faces and hearing the stories of loved ones reminded us once again of the deep bonds that unite our community in both love and remembrance.

If you were unable to attend this service, we invite you to join us for our next Candlelight Service of Remembrance on Thursday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Demetrius the Great Martyr Parish. All are welcome.

Act #73 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting St. André Bessette Parish 🙏🏽

We were proud to support St. André Bessette Roman Catholic Church’s Annual Gala, which took place on November 7th, by donating a pair of Toronto Raptors tickets to help raise funds for the construction of their new church. 🏗️

After years of vision, planning, and prayer, the parish community hopes to begin construction next year — a dream that is becoming a reality thanks to the dedication of so many parishioners and supporters.

A special congratulations to Fr. Peter Choi for organizing such a successful and inspiring evening. His leadership, faith, and care for those in his community continue to make a meaningful impact on so many lives. ❤️

We’re honoured to play a small part in supporting this beautiful new chapter for the parish and wish them continued success as they move closer to breaking ground on their new home.

🌟 You’re Invited: Annual Candlelight Services of Remembrance 🌟

As we approach the holiday season—a time that can feel especially tender after losing someone we love—we invite you to join us for our annual Candlelight Services of Remembrance.

This year holds special meaning as we also celebrate our 100th anniversary of serving families with compassion and care. In honour of this milestone, we welcome not only those who have experienced a loss this past year, but all families who feel called to gather, reflect, and remember their loved ones.

We will be hosting two services:

📅 Monday, November 24th at 6:00 PM
📍 St. Agnes Parish — 15 Grace St., Toronto
A Roman Catholic Mass celebrated primarily in Portuguese, with English included. Reception to follow.

📅 Thursday, December 4th at 6:00 PM
📍 St. Demetrius the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church — 135 La Rose Ave., Toronto
A Ukrainian Catholic service including both Ukrainian and English. Reception to follow.

At each service, guests will receive a simple Christmas ornament as a heartfelt keepsake to honour their loss during this meaningful season.

Whether you join us to light a candle, reflect quietly, or find comfort in community, we would be honoured to welcome you.

❤️ All are welcome.

Act #72 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Canadian Samaritans for Africa 🌍❤️

We were proud to support the Canadian Samaritans for Africa’s Annual Gala, which took place on November 7th, through a financial contribution toward their incredible mission.

Founded on the principles of love, friendship, solidarity, partnership, and collaboration, the Canadian Samaritans for Africa is a faith-based Canadian charity dedicated to empowering women-led, grassroots projects across Africa. Their work promotes self-sufficiency, education, health, agriculture, and clean water access—helping communities thrive through sustainable, women-driven development.

There’s also a special local connection: Susan HooKong-Taylor, the President of Canadian Samaritans for Africa and the cantor at St. Mary’s Church, serves many of the same families we have been privileged to support over the years.

We’re inspired by this organization’s commitment to empowering women and building stronger communities—values that reflect the heart of what we believe in, too. 💛

Act #71 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Honouring Lives at Toronto Western Hospital 🕊️

On October 27th, we were honoured to support Toronto Western Hospital’s Service of Remembrance, a moving event that commemorated patients who passed away between April and December 2024.

In honour of the occasion, we donated 100 long-stem carnations to be used during the service — one for each life remembered with love and gratitude. 🌸

These Services of Remembrance, held twice a year across the University Health Network, bring together families, friends, and staff to honour those who have passed while finding comfort in shared community and reflection. Attendees place flowers in vases and share words or memories of their loved ones — a simple, heartfelt gesture that represents healing and connection.

With Toronto Western Hospital located just across the street from our Bathurst Location, we witness firsthand the exceptional care, compassion, and dedication of its staff. We were humbled to once again be part of this meaningful service and to stand alongside a community united in remembrance.

We’ve also included a short video from last Fall’s Service of Remembrance, originally shared by UHN, which beautifully captures the emotion, reflection, and togetherness that make this annual gathering so special.
