Doulas On Bikes

Doulas On Bikes We are a collective of urban Doulas! If you are looking for a beautiful birthing experience, we are here to help you along the way.

A doula provides knowledge, and caring, unbiased support for your birth and immediate postpartum period. We see each birth and birthing mother as special and deserving of unique care. We are trained in hypnobirthing techniques, acupressure points for labour, and other relaxation strategies. After your bundle arrives, we can help you get your best start, including encapsulation of your placenta, breastfeeding support, and learning to live with baby.

St. Michael’s Hospital- getting to the Labour and Delivery Unit on the 15th floor.

ADDED COMPLICATION 🚩The intersection of Queen and Yonge is closed and will be for a long time. If driving, approach from the east. Plan your route ahead of time.

Expect that it takes a few minutes from the front entrance until you get to the 15th floor. In active labour, this means you might stop for at least one, maybe 2,3 or even 4 contractions before you get up there.

Don’t walk it alone! Have your partner or birth team member es**rt you up. Perhaps take the walk from the parking garage together or plan for support from a doula, or extra person to have company for the long journey.

Did you birth here? Tell us what you think about hyou hallway in the comments 🧐👀🏥✝️👇🏼

A birth gown is not a requirement for birth! But it is nice and sometimes people like nice things.
Hospital gowns are not very labour-friendly, they don't always spark joy in the wearer. A gorgeous garment like this one from .laborwear is way softer and smarter than a generic hospital gown. Do you NEED it? Absolutely not. But if you have it, then wear it! Feel luxurious while you labour and birth, why not?

Lots of practitioners however, when they see you pull out your own nice new looking gown will suggest that you NOT WEAR IT FOR BIRTH.
Why?

🤯It will get messy 🤪🤦 is the reason I've heard. Ya, it will 🙄 and then it gets laundered. Just like the clothes you might have been wearing when your water broke, or towels when you were labouring in the tub and hot out, or the sheets after a homebirth.

Settle down everyone, it all washes out.

Tell me in the comments your birth attire story!!!!

Cesarean Birth Stats for 2023-2024 in Ontario:
35% overall.

About 20% of births are with Midwives (yes, this is covered by OHIP). Of the midwife attended births, 86% were in hospital. 23% of all midwife attended births ended in cesarean.

HOWEVER when you factor only the hospital births with Midwives, 27% is the cesarean rate amongst those in hospital.

Choice of birthplace MATTERS.

First babies are more frequently born in hospital, that number triples for subsequent babies.

By the way, f*c* that ARRIVE study and everyone who doesn't think it's 🗑🚮

Some people will never know the very real struggle with making reels as an “older” adult.

Don’t forget to like and follow. And share (maybe not this vid 😆) comment with your own blooper?

I’d love to show you the other vid I made today, but my finger didn’t press the record button 🙈🙉🙊
