Some people will never know the very real struggle with making reels as an “older” adult.

Don’t forget to like and follow. And share (maybe not this vid 😆) comment with your own blooper?

I’d love to show you the other vid I made today, but my finger didn’t press the record button 🙈🙉🙊

So you think you’re in labour?
Here are TIPS for what to take with you into TRIAGE *BEFORE* you get admitted into a birthing room, (first you get assessed to see if you’re far enough along for monitoring, medication offers, etc).

📍Leave MOST of your stuff in the car (but bring it all with you to the hospital).
📍Most triage areas are small, not too private, and not always the perfect temperature. have a fan and sweater/blanket.
📍Bring a pillow, water, your necessary ID/health card
📍Phone and charger (sometimes it takes a while).

When you’re admitted, send someone down for the rest of your labour bag.

If you’re doing this alone or don’t have a car, your plan will be altered – be intentional about your packing, and keep a smaller kit with the stuff you want to access in triage, the rest can be tucked into a corner.

Book a Doulas On Bikes Doula for a virtual education session for more (and personalized) tips).

Your end of pregnancy preparation for labour and birth could include PRACTICING HAND EXPRESSION.

Don’t worry, you won’t run out.
Don’t worry if you don’t see more than a drop.
Don’t start practicing too early (ni**le stimulation really can give the body contractions).

You could collect the colostrum, but you don’t have to.

Comment below your experiences with hand expression ⬇️😎❤️

How are you staying healthy this winter?

In pregnancy, you have less options for medicating yourself back to health.

Prevention is key 🔑
Avoid crowds. Tell sick people not to visit. Boost your immune system naturally.

This is a great time of year to use up those 2025 benefits! In cold & flu season, it can be very helpful to see:

Naturopathic doctors
Chiropractors
Acupuncturists

Doulas give ideas for options you might not have thought of or have gotten from your medical providers. We don’t give medical advice or tell you what to do.

Colostrum collecting!

Is this something you’re interested in doing while pregnant (not recommended before 37 weeks!!)

Considerations are storage, preservation, and transportation. And be sure it’s not spoiled by the time you’re wanting to use it.

Learning the technique of hand expressing ahead of the birthing day IS VERY BENEFICIAL in case your baby doesn’t latch perfectly right away.

Colostrum collecting ⛽️💉
What is it? Why would you do it? Should you do it?

There are very good reasons why some people would want to have some expressed milk on hand when they birth, in case they’re not able to directly nurse their baby.

Or if they have reason to suspect baby could benefit from having a little extra of the good stuff on hand.

However, it’s not always so simple to just pump it out and have it with you.

And if it is super easy for you to extract your milk while pregnant, you can probably expect to have lots of milk to express in the moment too.

It’s good for your healing body to nurse in the hours after baby is born. It’s not always possible or working out that way, and often it can go that way.

Prenatal preparation help is a great idea!

Comment below about your experiences with colostrum collecting 🙏🏼🎉⬇️💭🤔

Top tips for dressing a newborn this winter.

Step one: make plans to go outside
Step two: book Mira for a consult on newborn tips
Step 3: ENJOY WINTER!

Video slide transcript (except from blog post):

A general rule about dressing infants is to put them in one more layer than what we are comfortable in. OUTSIDE
> if you need a sweater to be comfortable, your baby will take a blanket over top of their sweater.
> if it’s very cold, baby will be in a full body fleece or jacket layer over their clothes

If you are wearing your baby in a carrier or wrap, your body combined with the wrap/carrier count as a layer!
Dress in your warm inner layers. Tie baby on. Then wrap the outside layers (big coat and scarf) around you both.
BODY HEAT keeps you both warm!!

As for chilly days inside the house, pick one thing to keep warm: house or baby! (Don’t do both!)
Ideal temperature for a baby’s room while they sleep in pyjamas and swaddle is 19 degrees! So keep those babies warm, but don’t overheat them either.

if you’re ever in doubt that your baby is at a comfortable temperature (especially when they are still a tiny newborn) get down to skin to skin and put a breathable blanket over you both.

Book Mira for a 1 on 1 session for newborn care tips and skill building here!
