World Hearing Day comes once a year, and what better way to commemorate the day than with a jam-packed blog. 😊
“World Hearing Day is an annual global advocacy event for raising awareness regarding hearing loss, promoting ear and hearing care, and calling for action to address hearing loss and related issues” – WHD.
World Health Organization has chosen this year’s theme to be
“From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.”
As a company with a focus on classrooms for over 30 years, we are thrilled to have played a role in making classrooms more inclusive space for students. Hearing accessibility needs cannot be merely solved with one-size-fits-all solutions, but with specialized care involving an Educational Audiologist.
Hearing Health Facts
· About 95% of Deaf children are born to hearing families, which can lead to early language deprivation and isolation
· As of July 2022, more than 1 million cochlear implants have been implanted worldwide.13 In the United States, roughly 118,100 devices have been implanted in adults and 65,000 in children.1
Among adults ages 20-69, the overall annual prevalence of hearing loss dropped slightly from 16% (28.0 million) in the 1999-2004 period to 14% (27.7 million) in the 2011-2012 period.4 Perhaps this reflects the growing awareness of noise-induced hearing loss.
Technology around us continues to evolve in amazing and unique ways to make day-to-day living better. We stand at a new inflection point with Auracast technology which aims to revolutionize hearing accessibility for the hard-of-hearing community through hearing aids, cochlear implants and even consumer products like Auracast-enabled earbuds and headphones.
Celebrating World Hearing Day and reflecting on the incredible potential of Auracast provides many more reasons for optimism.
