Are you First Nations or of Native ancestry?
Are you a Person of Colour?
& Are you q***r or trans?
Thought of having kids at some point since Jan. 2007?
We want to hear from you!.. Particularly about whether you (and/or your partner/s) have:
● Thought of using fertility services or s***m banks in Ontario, but didn’t or couldn’t.
● Considered these services but decided to do your own thing
● Had success and/or positive experiences using fertility services in Ontario
● Wanted to use Ontario services, but went out of province for whatever reason.
● Used or tried to use these services in Ontario, but had a hard time
As LGBTQ2 people we have a history of creating chosen families. As First Nations people, people of Native ancestry and people of colour, we also come from a variety of family traditions and forms that are not always valued. And many of us are children of painful cultural or social histories that complicate our decisions about having kids and parenting.
Not much has been written about our desires, plans and choices about how we have children, and what it’s like for us as q***r and trans First Nations people and people of colour to seek and use the services we need to create families.
If you are Two-Spirit, Le***an, Gay, Bis*xual &/or Trans, and are First Nations, of Native ancestry, Black, South Asian, East Asian, Latino and/or Middle Eastern, and have experienced the above, we invite you to participate in our research project by granting us a one hour, confidential interview.
Our research team includes q***rs of colour and is affiliated with Sherbourne Health Centre, CAMH and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. We aim to inform LGBTQ2 community members and educate policy makers and service providers, in order to create positive changes for our future family plans. Please include your stories and voices in this important project!
We look forward to hearing from you!
