Growing up, the harsh words of bullies coupled with a constant “dieting” society and the need to “look” a certain way really shifted how I felt about myself and how I looked. In high school I developed an eating disorder – something I felt I could finally control. And though not even about food (the eating disorder – in most cases), this was the act of doing something (I suffered silently with Bul

imia Nervosa) when feelings and emotions brought me to a point and situation where I felt out of touch with myself – nervous and anxious, or out of control – and resulted in my binging and purging activities. Though it is something I am not proud of, I have realized over the years that my going through this has helped in shaping and shifting me into the person I am today and more so, share my story with others and help them get to a point where they are absolutely in love with who they are – their value and worth in this world.

Bloodwork….do you get yours checked annually?
It’s a great way to take a snapshot of what’s going on in your insides…I often suggest for people to get bloodwork done during a period when they’ve followed their lifestyle habits best. So, for instance, if you just went on a girls or guys weekend to Vegas or Miami…..don’t go for bloodwork the minute you return….it will show very clearly what happened in the last 24-72 hours!
And then when you get results?? Guess what….you may not automatically want to take medication and that’s amazing. There are a TON of lifestyle habits and nutrition education you can take on to empower yourself and your health! That’s where dietitians come in!!
BUT grab your bloodwork requisition….and just be in the know of your health!

There are actually many health benefits to garlic….its not just there to add flavour, heat, and sass to your dishes! When consumed regularly, in a balanced diet, garlic can support your overall health! But you’re either team garlic or not!

I had one of those ‘I’m not doing enough’ moments a little while ago…..then got hit with a nasty bug that made me rest and slow down….all to realize I was filling my social feed with too much ‘not doing enough’ or ‘still need to be fixed’ information and energy…..
So I decided to sit quietly, look at what I was doing, but also figure out what I wanted to spend more of my energy on remove what no longer served me.
And maybe we all need to do that more often! So here’s my reminder to you all that you ARE enough…..maybe some things in your life do need to go, but always remember who holds YOUR power….YOU!

…has this ever happened to you? You have a plan for your meals and snacks for the day, but then they get hijacked when you see your kids leftovers and just end up being their compost?
It is so common for us to ‘finish their plates’ as this may be a mentality many were raised on, and to avoid food waste, but your body’s cues of what you want and need MATTER!
As I was making my kids’ lunches the other day I saw the leftover rice from the night before and felt, in that moment, the urge to have a salmon poke bowl for lunch….upon returning home from school drop-off, I saw the leftover scrambled eggs in each of their plates and my first thought was ‘I guess that’s my lunch today’!
But then I stopped myself….reminded myself of what my body requested earlier on, packed up the scrambled eggs and decided to make my Bowl!
Don’t hijack your needs!
Feed yourself mindfully
Feed yourself with intention
Feed yourself with the nourishment your body wants
Because….YOU MATTER

A little thought for you today as you make your way through March Break…..I LOVE a good salad, but it should be balanced with your macros to keep you full and satisfied for a few hours at least. Many times I have clients who indicate they find themselves reaching for a sweet treat, chips or chocolate soon after their meal…..and ALTHOUGH many factors can be at play……such as how fast they ate, how hungry they were, mood/mentality, sleep, and stress, MOST times I find they aren’t including a carb with their meal…..
So balance your meal right from the start. Eat mindfully. Eat slowly. And see if it makes a difference!
