This Week In The News: From Evidence Supporting Incentive-Based Treatment to New Recovery-Focused Hubs and Ongoing Calls for Involuntary Care

“If the word involuntary is too hard for anybody to hear, call it something else. I don't care. I don't want my son to be in a state where he requires that level of care, but he is and they're ignoring it. They are willfully ignoring it.”

🚨 DRUG ALERT from Toronto Public Health: Increase in Drug-Related Deaths in Toronto 🚨

Preliminary data show there were five suspected opioid overdose-related deaths between April 3 and 6. In comparison, the average number of suspected opioid overdose-related deaths for four-day periods in the past 12 weeks was one. This is a heartbreaking reminder of how unpredictable and dangerous the unregulated opioid supply has become.

These are not just statistics — these are our loved-ones.

If you or someone you love uses substances, please take extra precautions:• Don’t use alone — have someone you trust nearby• Always carry a naloxone kit, it could save a life!• Use a supervised consumption site, if possible.• If you need to use alone, have a safety plan.• Check what's in your drugs at local drug checking services.

Support is available. You are not alone.

FAR - Families for Addiction Recovery

Families for Addiction Recovery is a national charity founded by parents of children who have struggled with addiction from their teens. Our goal is long term recovery for those with addiction and their families.

  • We offer parent-to-parent support for families struggling with addiction.

  • We are a voice for families to influence government policy.

  • We educate community groups, health care providers and law enforcement about addiction, health laws and drug policies.
