On October 8, we were thrilled to welcome the esteemed Canadian novelist, poet, literary critic and inventor, Margaret Atwood to Hart House Theatre – one of her favourite spots on the University of Toronto campus.

She was here filming with American television news magazine 60 Minutes, about her pending memoir, Book of Lives: A Memoir of Sorts (Penguin Random House). The 60 Minutes interview also covered on her formative years at U of T, Victoria College and Hart House Theatre. She performed on our stage as part of Victoria’s Bob Comedy R***e – a sketch/improv show – and also undertook publicity and poster design for shows that Victoria College produced. The 60 Minutes segment aired on Sunday, November 9.

Explore and celebrate Ukrainian and Slavic folk traditions with Kosa Folk Arts at Hart House! The Talking Walls exhibition “Future Folkways: Reclaiming Rituals, Remaking Roots” marks the 15th anniversary of Kosa — a Toronto-based collective of artists, cultural activists and diaspora community members.

Beginning in November, experience a series of recurring programs that honour Eastern European roots and shared heritage while imagining new, living forms of tradition — from open band and caroling rehearsals to folk dance socials, storytelling nights, crafts, guided walks and more.
