Alexis Lodge Retirement Residences

Alexis Lodge Retirement Residences Alexis Lodge is a retirement home that offers dementia care, continence care, palliative care, and g There is quite a bit of flexibility in our daily schedule.

Alexis Lodge is a retirement home located in two houses in Toronto. Our goal is to create a sense of comfort and familiarity for our residents that traditional retirement homes cannot provide. Alexis Lodge offers a non-medical program of familiar activities tailored to the individual. The staff members are non-uniformed support workers who are familiar with each resident’s history and personality. The resident is included in the daily routines of the home as much as possible. For example, a resident who finds food preparation enjoyable and familiar, will be encouraged to participate in the kitchen, under safe supervision. If a resident needs to sleep a little longer in the morning, there will still be a fresh, piping hot breakfast waiting for them when they get up.

Come celebrate the release of Grandpa’s Two Worlds: A Journey Through Lewy Body Dementia, my newest children’s book created to give voice, foster compassion, and deepen understanding for children and families affected by dementia—alongside my memoir, Dementia Theory to Practice: A Caregiver’s Guide.

Together, let’s raise awareness, spark meaningful conversations, and nurture empathy in the next generation.

I’m truly humbled and deeply grateful to see my books featured at the Black History Month celebration at Queen’s Park. Moments like this remind me how powerful storytelling and education can be in shaping understanding and compassion.

My sincere thanks to MPP David Smith and his wonderful team for their continued support and strong commitment to community engagement. I was also truly delighted to connect with inspiring changemakers in the dementia field, including Iroanyah, and many others whose work is helping to advance awareness, understanding, and compassionate care.

Being part of such an uplifting community — and having dementia awareness included at the forefront of this important gathering — was truly heartwarming and encouraging. As we continue preparing for upcoming events like Word on the Street, I’m reminded that awareness remains one of the greatest gifts we can share with our communities.

Together, through education, dialogue, and compassion, we can continue to reduce stigma and support those living with dementia and their families.

Sunday was a beautiful milestone — the inaugural collaboration between A Rose For Grandma Wellness Hub and Bridging Futures Canada Society Healthy Aging & Brain Health Wellness Program at Aaniin Community Centre was a wonderful success.

We celebrated Black History Month with a pre-launch luncheon of my book, powerful dementia-informed presentations, meaningful community dialogue, and vibrant steel pan music that filled the room with culture and joy. I was deeply honoured to receive recognition from Councillor Neethan Shan on behalf of the City of Toronto.

This is what community-based dementia leadership looks like — education, celebration, and impact. My heart is full. Thank you to everyone who made it special, especially powerhouse geriatrician Dr. Jeya Thayaparan, who continues to help reframe dementia care.

✨ Join us March 7th at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus as we celebrate the reframing of geriatric dementia care and the launch of my books:
Dementia Theory To Practice: A Comprehensive Guide
Grandpa’s Two Worlds: A Journey Through Lewy Body Dementia

It will be an inspiring time of learning, dialogue, and community. I would truly love to see you there!

We've seen amazing changes when our care home residents play games🧩

The happy look when muscle memory takes over, the pride when they finish even simple versions of games they've always loved. Our activity helpers make fun times that work around memory problems to reach the person still there inside. We know that having fun isn't just about passing time—it's about feeling good, feeling connected, and feeling joy.

When someone you've always counted on starts getting confused, understanding what's happening helps you help them.

Alzheimer's and dementia are connected but different—like how all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. Knowing exactly what your loved one is facing helps you speak up for what they need.
