Many families prefer to have reminders of their loved one present at the memorial. This can include small handful or even hundreds of photos and memories attached to a board, or placed on stands. Another popular option is to have a table at the memorial service with items, symbols, awards, collectables. Lastly, a granite memorial stone can be personalized with your loved one’s information, and can be a great thing to display as well.

One of our priests told me a story about the way to heaven is through the cemetery, and it goes like this.
One night, the cemetery watchman was working the graveyard shift when he noticed a young man walking through the cemetery. The watchman stopped the young man and asked him where he was going. He replied he was going home to his father's house on the other side of the cemetery. The watchman asked why he was not afraid. (the best part) The young man answered, see that house up on that hill with all the lights on, that's my father's house, and he is waiting for me to welcome me home, this is the quickest way to his home, and I have nothing to fear as long as I am heading to my father's house. And this is the way to our father's house in heaven, through death, through the cemetery. And we have nothing to fear when we are on our way home.

How old is cremation? Archaeological records cite one of the oldest known cremations as the Mungo Lady, the approx. 20,000 year-old remains of a partly cremated body found near Australia’s Lake Mungo. This 1969 finding shows that cremation, as well as complex burial rituals, might have existed in early human societies.

Whether you are 35, 50 or 75, pre-planning a funeral allows you to save time, energy and money for yourself and your loved ones. Although it can be difficult to contemplate our mortality or the mortality of loved ones, funeral pre-planning in Etobicoke ensures that our final wishes are honoured, personalized and respected. At Ridley Funeral Home we offer funeral pre-planning services so you can make the tough choices instead of your loved ones.
Why Pre-Plan Your Funeral
Similar to estate planning, pre-planning your funeral allows you to make clear-headed decisions that save your loved ones from having to plan a funeral during a time of grief. More and more people are choosing to do funeral pre-planning in Etobicoke because:
You will spare loved ones a financial burden
Your wishes will be fulfilled
You can discuss your decisions ahead of time with your family and friends
You will spare your loved ones trouble in times of grief
You will freeze most costs at today’s prices regardless of inflation (on average funeral costs increase by 10% each year)
Payments can be made all at once or in monthly installments
Funeral pre-planning is a smart choice because, while it is unfortunate, death comes with a financial cost. Planning and paying for your funeral in advance can give you peace of mind, offset the costs and help your loved ones get through a tough time.
