Tier 2 introduces higher patellofemoral loading primarily through increased force output, faster loading rates, and greater unilateral demand compared to Tier 1.

🎥 Here we look at double and single leg jump variations (from lowest to highest knee load):

1️⃣ Two-leg repeated lateral jumps
2️⃣ Two-leg repeated forward jumps
3️⃣ Sports-movement jumps
4️⃣ Two-leg maximal forward jump
5️⃣ Two-leg countermovement jump
6️⃣ Alternating split jumps
7️⃣ One-leg repeated forward hops
8️⃣ One-leg repeated lateral hops
9️⃣ One-leg maximal forward hop
🔟 One-leg countermovement hop

These exercises increase eccentric demand and rate of force development, preparing the knee for higher-load jumping and landing tasks in later stages.

The drop jump is a key late-stage rehab test because it loads the stretch-shortening cycle and reveals deficits that strength and hop distance tests often miss – especially post-ACL.

With phone-based 2D-to-3D movement analysis, we can quantify:
• Jump height
• Ground contact time
• Reactive Strength Index (RSI)
• Eccentric-to-concentric ratio
• Side-to-side asymmetry & landing mechanics

Asymmetries here often reflect inadequate plyometric exposure, even when traditional return-to-sport tests have been “passed.”

If you want to know whether you're ready for explosive sport demands, this test is a strong option.

Research on patellofemoral joint loading across 35+ weight-bearing exercises provides a clear ranking of movements from lowest to highest load. Tier 1 represents the lowest joint loading and is often used in early rehabilitation or during higher symptom irritability.

Tier 1 Exercises:

1️⃣ Walking
2️⃣ Low step-up
3️⃣ Partial squat (to ~60°)
4️⃣ Low step-down
5️⃣ High step-up
6️⃣ Two-leg repeated lateral jumps (fast)
7️⃣ One-leg repeated forward hops (fast)
8️⃣ Two-leg repeated forward jumps (fast)

These movements form the foundation for gradual, controlled exposure to load before progressing to higher-demand tiers. Keep an eye out for the tier 2 and 3 exercises soon.
