Good news Ontario! We will be putting job action on pause as the government has finally agreed to formal negotiations with the OAO! We thank you for your support and for signing our petition over these past 3 months as we lobbied for this important first step!

We will be seeing OHIP-eligible patients as long as the government is acting in fairness and good faith during this time.

If you were put on our waitlist, please be kind to our staff as they will be contacting you over the next few weeks as we work our way through our backlog of patients. Hope to see you soon!

Thank you Dr. Gila Martow (PC MPP) for speaking out about this issue that's been so poorly handled by our government!

Our patients deserve to know all the details about why their eye care has been put on hold for the past 2 months!

To Christine Elliott, the Minister of Health, we are urging you to do your job and show us you can work this out in good faith!

PC MPP Gila Martow says her own PC government is not doing enough to resolve a dispute with optometrists.

This is an amazing overview of what's been going on with the optometrists' job action currently still taking place. If you have not learned all the details, this really highlights it all.

Thank you Dr. Gila Martow for standing up and fighting for sustainable eye care for Ontarians!

If you haven't done so already, go to www.saveeyecare.ca to generate a letter to your local MPP and to the provincial government to show your support!

Great post by one of my colleagues regarding the current OHIP situation and optometry in Ontario.

Great post by one of my colleagues regarding the current OHIP situation and optometry in Ontario.

Hon. Todd Smith, Minister of Energy, has revealed that the government KNOWINGLY underfunds the service, and expects the aged 20-64 to pay even more to fund it for seniors & kids. This is not fair, and not sustainable! Also this was NOT negotiated with the OAO.

We asked that FordNation do the right thing and sit down with OAO to find a real solution that does not ensure optometrists have to pay out of pocket to see OHIP patients. We have not heard from Ontario Ministry of Health since Aug 29.

Every other province in this country has figured it out. We’re confident you can too. The people of Ontario deserve no less!

📞Call the Premier 416-325-1941 or 416-745-2859
📞Call the Minister of Health Christine Elliott 416-327-4300
📞Call Lorne Coe (905) 430-1141 - Please stop ignoring my requests. Time to STAND UP for Whitby!

If you're still learning about the SaveEyeCare.ca campaign in Ontario and why OHIP covered exams are currently put on hold (and why you can't just pay out of pocket if you are a child/senior/adult with sight-threatening condition), here is a great read from a fellow optometrist.

The Ford government and the Ontario Association of Optometrists are in a standoff right now, and a big reason is that both sides have much…

On Monday, August 21st, Torontonians will be able to see a partial solar eclipse between 1:10 p.m. and 3:49 p.m.

While looking at the eclipse directly can cause harm to the retina, eclipse viewing glasses and home-made eclipse viewers are 2 ways that you can view this phenomenon safely.

You can see a list of organized eclipse viewing events here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/solar-eclipse-2017-1.4252315

Or check out this link to make your own eclipse viewer!

It'll happen to everyone at some point, the truth is our eyes change as we get older - sometimes sooner than we think. Luckily we have more options now than we ever had before to help with focusing up close - just ask your optometrist the next time you have your eyes checked.

In March 2017, Dr. Chan went with the Onesight organization to Campeche, Mexico to provide eye exams to over 4500 patients. Partnering with DIF, the Mexican institution of social assistance, a group of 50 optometrists, opticians, translators, and other volunteers had a busy week screening for ocular health problems, testing vision, and giving away free glasses. Of course, Dr. Chan took the opportunity to catch some sun, practice his Spanish, and make some new friends. ¡Hasta luego Campeche!
