Pilates Swimmers — why they’re so good (love them or hate them!)

Swimmers strengthen the posterior chain — the muscles along the back of the body that support posture, spinal stability, and everyday movement.

They work the
✔️ glutes
✔️ hamstrings
✔️ spinal extensors
✔️ upper back muscles

These are the muscles that tend to weaken when we spend a lot of time sitting, driving, or working at a computer.

The alternating arm and leg movement also trains cross-body coordination, helping the body connect the left and right sides.

🔥 Bonus: adding a band above the knees increases the work of the glutes and outer hips, helping improve hip stability and pelvic control.

Love them or hate them, exercises like this help bring the body back into balance by strengthening the muscles that support us — so we can move with more ease in everyday life.

Single-leg work shows us things we don’t notice when both feet are on the floor.

When we work one side at a time, the body has to stabilize and organize itself differently.

Unilateral movements like the single-leg bridge help:
✔ build balanced strength between the left and right side
✔ improve hip and core stability
✔ expose imbalances so we can work on them

In our yoga and pilates classes, we work both sides of the body individually as well as together, helping you move better and feel stronger in everyday life.
