We’re heading into the month of October which feels quite good right about now with glorious sunshine and leaves that are turning vibrant colours! (Here in Toronto :))

With this feel good intention let’s give the Spleen some love in this month’s master class — a class devoted to creating a more pliable environment for this beautiful organ that helps support our immune system by producing white blood cells and filtering pathogens. 

We’ll take into account the Spleen’s relationship with organs surrounding it, the meridian line, the massaging effects of our breath, and the arterial and nerve supply. 

Here are the details for the class -

Building blocks*:  
* ELDOA - T12/L1, T9-10-11 Classic+Costotransverse+Sternocostal, Hip (external) 
* Global Postural Stretches (GPS) - Spleen, Kidney (inferior, superior in adduction), Scarpa Triangle (femoral triangle) 
* Myofascial Stretches (MFS) - External + Internal Obliques
* Proprioception - spine, ankle
* Bonus: tracing the Spleen meridian line & respiratory lung blockage

I was reminded the other day that mental worry effects our organ function and our organ function effects our mental state - an organ (ie-spleen) can make us feel more worried than necessary if it’s prevented from working optimally.

When we move our body - can be as simple as walking, focused breathing, flexing and extending the spine when seated, etc - our organs are pushed and pulled around (this is good!) causing an increase in fluid and a change in cell movement leading to a happy “inside” which ultimately leads to a happier you “outside”.

We’ll focus on the front of the body to provide an equal balance to the posterior sling (part 1).
