Did you know that the knee is one of the most complex joints in the body? It consists of 3 bones:

🦴 the femur
🦴 tibia
🦴 patella

It's supported by 5 ligaments:

✨Quadriceps tendon
✨Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)
✨Lateral collateral ligament (LCL)
✨Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)
✨Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL)

If any one of these structures suffer damage, it can cause instability and pain in the knee. It's important to get yourself checked out if you do feel like there's a problem as the knee is a complex joint and can lead to further problems if not functioning healthily.

Do you experience back pain? Are your shoulders slumped when sitting or standing? Or do your shoulders become sore quickly when lifting heavy objects above your head? Your thoracic spine may be suffering from poor mobility.

When the thoracic spine lacks mobility, this can lead to the lower (lumbar) spine compensating as a result, resulting in low back pain. It can cause issues for the neck and shoulders too, therefore its important to be aware of the symptoms of thoracic immobility and try to rectify the problem before it gets worse.

One major risk factor is all the extra sitting that many of us do, particularly for desk jobs that require prolonged use of a computer. One thing that’s helpful is to take breaks every 45 mins or so to stand up, stretch and move around for a few minutes.

Feeling tight in the back? Want better thoracic mobility? Here are some exercises that might help!

🌟Foam Roller Thoracic Extensions:
Have your hands behind your neck. Lie flat with your upper back on the foam roller. Have your knees bent with feet flat on the ground. Slowly press your upper back into the foam roller and feel your spine extend. Hold for 15 seconds. Release.
🌟Upper Back Opener: Stand about 1 meter away from the wall. With your arms shoulder width apart, place your hands on the wall in front of you at chest level. Bend at the hips and push your chest toward the ground whilst keeping your hands on the wall. 🌟Feel a stretch in the upper back. Hold for 30 seconds. Release.
🌟Cow-Cat Stretch: Start on your hands and knees with knees under the hips and hands under the shoulders. Push your hands against the ground and bring your chest toward the floor and butt toward the sky. Feel a stretch in the upper back. Then move back to neutral before rounding your back to form a C in the opposite direction. Perform 10 times.
🌟Open Book: Lie on left side with knees bent and arms straight in front and palms touching. Lift right hand straight up off the left, and open up the arms like a book. Follow the top of your hand with your head and eyes until your right hand is stretching passed the other side of your body. Hold for 15 seconds, then release. Repeat 10 times.
