*Read till the end for an exercise to fuel your emotional system!*
Have you ever noticed a rush through your body when feeling excited? Tingles or restless when you are nervous? A constricting feeling when anxious? Or boiling heat when being angry?
We often experience emotions directly in our body. And this is for a very good reason! Our emotional system prepares us to react to challenges (or opportunities 😉) in our environment. They prime our body and nervous system to respond. FAST. However, when you are in a flight-fight-freeze mode chances are you totally ignore these sensations, probably unconsciously, and are unable to react appropriately. You might feel numb and feel no emotions at all; this is more freeze 🥶 mode. Or you are overreactive (fight-flight) 🤬 and totally flip out with the tiniest thing your partner says or you can't stop crying 🥺 when someone gives you some feedback. Both are signs that your emotional system / your reactor needs some more energy. Soooo how can YOU fuel your emotional system yourself ⛽️. It's super simple. Next time you feel a certain emotion, be curious and see where you notice it in your body 👀. Place your hands there and see what does it feel like 👐🏼? Is it constricting or expanding? What color is it? What is the texture? Maybe it links to another emotion or place in the body. Breathe 🌬 into that spot and see if you can just be with the sensation, accept it for what it is and see what happens. Maybe the color or texture changes by just you bringing awareness to that spot.
