When you're trying to clean up your diet, eat a little bit better and maybe even lose some body fat, variety can be a progress killer.

Variety - especially in your meals - is just one more decision you have to make. One more barrier that can cause you to throw in the towel.

Keep it simple. Especially in the beginning.

Once you're in a good rhythm and have a solid handle on your nutrition, then absolutely add some flare into your meals.

Personally, I LOVE experimenting with new recipes, but I've also been at this game for a little longer than most.

And I still keep my diet SIMPLE for the most part, rotating through a handful of basic meals I enjoy.

So if you've been having a hard time being consistent with eating a bit better, try this...

1️⃣Choose 3-5 meals you enjoy, that are easy to make and fit goals right now.

2️⃣Then just rotate through them every day.

Variety is cool. But consistency is better - especially in the beginning.

If you're struggling to make a new habit stick, try using a habit trigger.

Pair your new habit with something you're already doing consistently, like brushing your teeth or going to bed.

For example, you could do 5-10 minutes of mobility movements right after brushing your teeth.

You're effectively borrowing the consistency of the old habit to build some momentum with the new habit.

Once you're doing the new habit consistently you can move it around, but build some momentum first.

Most of us think our problems are much too complex to be solved by simple strategies.

But the truth is that when it comes to weight loss, most people don’t need more complex diets or workouts. They need ruthless and consistent ex*****on of a few very basic principles over a period of time.

Consistency and patience.

That’s the name of the game and how I’ve helped many clients lose over 100 lbs in 12 months or less💯

I'm not sure who needs to hear this today, but let's stop this nonsense.

There are many, many reasons why the scale might have jumped up a couple of pounds this weekend.

Reasons like:

- you're holding onto more water
- undigested food in your system
- you haven't gone to the bathroom yet
- and so on...

But NONE of those reasons are "because you screwed up" or "fell off the wagon."

There is no wagon and you can't screw this up. Stop using that vocabulary and please stop beating yourself up.

Calories count, but you don’t have to count them.

To lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit, but there are simpler ways to do that without relying on math calculations that are usually inaccurate anyways.

Counting calories and weighing your food is actually what I save for Level 2 clients. People who already have the basics dialed in and are very detail oriented.

Level 1, where all of my clients start, is focused on building better behaviors and awareness around how and what they eat. Then we look at a simple portion control method that doesn’t rely on numbers at all.

If you’re trying to lose weight, calories matter but you don’t necessarily need to worry about that if the basics are consistently on point💯

If you're feeling overwhelmed by not knowing what to eat it might be because you don't have a plan.

Use the 7-Step Super Simple Meal Planning System to help put some clarity around your meals.

Start by answering a couple questions to make your plan:

Step 1: What are your goals?
Step 2: How many meals/day do you want to eat?
Step 3: BP Hand Method or Counting Calories?
Step 4: Low carb? Low fat? Paleo? Vegan? Pick your "tem-Plate"
Step 5: Choose 4-7 simple meals you enjoy
Step 6: Plan out your weekly menu (including "off" meals)
Step 7: Go grocery shopping

The reason why most people don't get the results they're after, despite spending hours and hours in the gym, is because they have "workouts", not a "program".

So what's the difference?

For starters, "workouts" tend to be randomly thrown together. Maybe they balance all the movements, but there's really no rhyme or reason to the exercise selection.

Typically "workouts" are just thrown together to make you tired, and sweaty.

These are often found in bootcamps, group fitness classes, online fitness memberships/streaming workouts, or your favourite Insta-coach.

On the other hand, a "program" is well thought out, carefully planned according to your goals, and typically will cover 4-12 months.

It's designed in phases, with each phase building on the progress from the previous phase.

These phases are then made up of individual workouts, but the workouts are designed and planned in a way that they fit into the overall "program".

FYI - Inside all of our online coaching programs, we design PROGRAMS for our members, not just random workouts.

Because "programs" get results.

Raise your hand 🤚 in the comments if this sounds familiar...

You make the decision that you'd like to lose some weight - Good for you!

And then the first thing you think is, "Ok, I want to lose weight so I better start doing some CARDIO."

Maybe you start jogging in the mornings, or you invest in a Peloton and start doing spin classes a few times each week.

And in the beginning, it works! You start losing some weight, and you're feeling great.

Right up until.... you're not.

All of a sudden the scale stops going down, and maybe even starts going back up.

Your confused because you haven't changed your diet, and you're doing the same exercise you were doing before so why did the weight loss stop?

There are many health benefits that come from fasting when done properly.

The problem is that fasting - specifically, intermittent fasting - has become a trendy new weight loss "diet".

Fasting is not a "diet".

Fasting is a tool that can be used to unlock certain physiological processes in the body.

Can fasting help you lose weight? Sure.

But the primary reason intermittent fasting helps people lose weight is because it constricts your eating into a shorter window of time.

For many people, this helps them eat less throughout the day which can lead to weight loss.

Now, there are many other reasons that you might want to incorporate a regular fasting practice...

But when it comes to weight loss we can't get a way from the simple energy balance equation of "calories in vs. calories out".

For some people, intermittent fasting provides a more sustainable way to control the "calories in" portion of that energy balance equation.
