You’ve probably heard the phrase “rest and digest” before. But what does that actually mean? And why does it matter so much?
Your nervous system has two main modes:
⚡Sympathetic (fight or flight) — the “get stuff done,” “run from the bear,” “power through” mode
🌿Parasympathetic (rest and digest) — the repair mode: where healing, sleep, digestion, and emotional regulation happen
Here’s the catch: most people spend way too much time stuck in the first mode.
Your body can’t do both at once.
You’re either running from the proverbial bear (emails, deadlines, traffic, tension)...
Or you’re in a state where your body feels safe enough to restore itself.
In parasympathetic mode:
💤 You sleep deeply and wake refreshed
🥦 Your digestion works better
🧘♂️ Your muscles and breath relax
🧠 Your brain is clear and focused
But if your nervous system is constantly on edge—even subtly—it’s harder to access that state. And that’s where chiropractic can help.
Chiropractic adjustments improve neural input to your brain, helping it recognize that your environment is safe—which allows your nervous system to shift out of survival and into regulation.
It’s not about flipping a switch. It’s about training your body to shift more easily.
Because when your nervous system can access that rest-and-digest mode more often?
Everything changes.
