All of us in CIDsCaNN have been shocked and saddened by the sudden passing on November 23, 2025 of Dr. Brian Feagan. Seldom has one individual had such a presence within nor such an impact on the worldwide inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) community. / Nous tous, au CIDsCaNN, avons été bouleversés et attristés par le décès soudain, le 23 novembre 2025, du Dr Brian Feagan. Rarement un individu a eu une telle présence et un tel impact au sein de la communauté mondiale des maladie inflammatoires intestinalis (MII).

CIDsCaNN study identifies these predictors of high costs for caring for children with IBD:
    •    Initial treatment with anti-TNF therapy
    •    Having an encounter with the healthcare system for a mental health reason
    •    Older age at IBD diagnosis
Lower costs were experienced by those with a regular primary care provider.

L’étude du CIDsCaNN identifie les facteurs suivants comme prédictifs de coûts élevés pour les soins prodigués aux enfants atteints de MII :

    •    Traitement initial par anti-TNF
    •    Recours au système de santé pour des raisons de santé mentale
    •    Âge avancé au moment du diagnostic de la MII

Les coûts ont été moins élevés pour les patients ayant un médecin traitant régulier.

Congratulations to the following CIDsCaNN members who received awards at CDDW (Annual meeting of Canadian Association of Gastroenterology):

Nicola Jones and Bruce Vallance (along with Derek McKay) were awarded the 2025 Education Excellence award for their work in establishing TRIANGLE. This award is given for outstanding contribution to education on a national or international basis.

Anne Griffiths was awarded the 2025 CAG Research Excellence award for outstanding contribution to gastroenterology through basic and/or clinical research.

Félicitations aux membres suivants du CIDsCaNN qui ont reçu des prix lors du CDDW (congrès annuel de l’Association Canadienne de Gastroentérologie) :

CIDsCaNN investigators examined the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) at diagnosis in kids with IBD, to understand inflammation seen during colonoscopy. In this study, published in Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology (CTG), they found that unbalanced blood cell count can indeed help predict severe IBD.

Les chercheurs du CIDsCaNN ont examiné le rapport neutrophiles/lymphocytes (NLR) au moment du diagnostic chez les enfants atteints de MIII, afin de comprendre l’inflammation observée lors de la coloscopie. Dans cette étude, publiée dans Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology (CTG), ils ont découvert qu’un déséquilibre de la numération des cellules sanguines peut en effet aider à prédire les MIII graves.
