EHN BELLWOOD TORONTO

Addiction Treatment Rehab Centre

At EHN Bellwood Toronto (formerly Bellwood Health Services), we have been treating addiction and related mental health disorders for over 30 years. Our abstinence-based treatment model is rooted in the work of our co-founder, Dr. Gordon Bell, a pioneer in the treatment of addiction in Canada. EHN Bellwood Toronto as an addiction treatment rehab centre is defined by our long-standing experience, combined with our commitment to excellent patient care. Addiction impacts every area of a person’s life. We believe that treatment should therefore be holistic, and should address not only our clients’ psychological wellbeing, but also their physical health, social world, and spiritual life. This comprehensive biopsychosocial approach is reflected in our inter-professional team of counsellors, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, nutritionists, family therapists, and physical health staff. We strive to be strengths-based in our approach, believing that clients possess strengths and skills that can be built upon to serve their recoveries. EHN Bellwood Toronto's clients benefit from our serene and secluded setting. This oasis of calm in the heart of Toronto gives clients a chance to heal – to take a break from their lives, gain some perspective, and begin to put in place plans and practise the skills that will be essential to their recoveries. Our primary goal is to restore hope in our clients’ lives. Our committed and compassionate staff take incredible pride in their work, in the process of helping our clients set the foundations for healthier, happier, and more meaningful lives.

Serving in the RCMP often comes with great pride, but also exposure to psychologically traumatic events.

As a result, nearly half of RCMP members are struggling with mental health disorders. The stigma around speaking about it and the low intent to seek help only make matters worse.

Normalizing conversations around mental health and access to effective treatment are both needed to help the recovery process.

“Boys don’t cry.” “Tough it out.” “Be strong.” Common phrases men heard too much growing up, and it’s impacting their ability to admit when they need help.

The first step is breaking down the stigma around mental health disorders and the notion that showing emotion is a sign of weakness.

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s work together towards creating an atmosphere of support and compassion for those who are struggling.

Overcoming addiction, trauma, and mental health disorders is never a solo effort. And that’s never more true than with Canada’s First Nations communities.

EHN Canada is committed to providing culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care to Indigenous clients and to supporting the healing and well-being of Indigenous communities.
We recognize the importance of learning from Indigenous leaders and perspectives and we strive to incorporate this knowledge into our programs.

To support EHN Edgewood's Indigenous clients today we are starting our day with a guest, Peter Mckay, opening with a prayer and a song. We are also doing a ceremony and cedar brushing later in the day. Mary Hill, clinical counsellor, will make cedar roes with the patients in the afternoon, and for lunch, we have asked the kitchen to prepare bison stew and scow bread.
