This one has become a favourite of ours: Curried Cauliflower (I edited it to make it dairy free).
If you've been avoiding cauliflower because of a goitrogenic fear you can let that go. 🙌 As long as you're eating normal amounts of goitrogenic foods (broccoli, strawberries, cauliflower, etc.), you'll be fine. It was a mis-advertised fear and these foods have so many wonderful health benefits that they shouldn’t be avoided. 👍
Cauliflower is high in vitamin B complex, K, and vitamin C. It’s also been found to have helpful detoxifying compounds for the liver.
Ingredients:
1 Head of cauliflower, chopped
1 Tbsp Tahini
3 Tbsp of plain coconut yogurt
1 Tbsp of water
Juice from ½ lemon
2 tsp sesame seeds
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 tsp of paprika
½ tsp of turmeric
½ tsp of cumin
Pre-heat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Chop up your cauliflower into bite sized pieces, rinse well and set aside. Mix all of the above ingredients in a big bowl, add the cauliflower pieces and mix well so all of the pieces are coated. Add a little more water if you need to thin out the sauce. Pour over a parchment lined baking sheet, spread out evenly, and pop it in the oven for 15 to 20min. Keep an eye on it, turning it occasionally, and take out when the cauliflower is tender. Then sprinkle with parsley or cilantro and pomegranate seeds and enjoy! It’s delicious! 😋

We aren’t born knowing colour. When does it start? When does it end? How do we explain this to our kids? Or do we? So sad 😞 So many questions...

If you have hypothyroid or hashi’s and are ALSO eating corn 🌽 more than 2x per week – you may be unknowingly adding to your symptoms. 😫🙀
Normally you’d think of corn as a “healthy food” because it’s a vegetable, right? Well the main challenge with corn is that 90% of the crop in 🇨🇦 and the 🇺🇸 comes from genetically modified seed. Now GMO’s in theory are not a bad thing but it’s the high amounts herbicide that’s needed to produce a good yield that makes GMO foods problematic.
“Glyphosate”, is the main chemical used in “Round Up” and ever since the use of genetically modified seeds, farmers have used much more Round Up to get rid of the “super bugs” and still generate a high yield each season 🌾🌾🌾 The problem is that glyphosate (which is linked to cancers and neurological disorders) gets incorporated into the plant and when we it, it gets incorporated into our liver.
What does all this have to do with the thyroid? Well I like to call the liver the “big boss of the endocrine system” and our thyroid gland is part of that system. So when our toxicity levels are high, our livers are working on over drive and our thyroid hormones get pushed to the back burner because it’s a “less urgent” bodily function.
So I’m not saying don’t eat corn. I’m just saying monitor your consumption. Try to find organic corn at your farmers market and then buy loads of it to cook and pack away in the freezer for the winter months. If you do eat mainstream corn, make sure it’s occasional consumption and not part of your weekly meal planning. 🙌👍
(this also goes for soybeans but let’s leave that for another day 😅)

A diet low in nutrient-rich foods, especially in iodine and selenium (which are trace minerals crucial for thyroid function), increases the risk for thyroid disorders. The thyroid gland needs both selenium and iodine to produce adequate levels of thyroid hormones. 😲 And these nutrients also have other protective roles in the body; for example, selenium supports the activity of a very powerful antioxidant known as glutathione which normally controls inflammation and fights oxidative stress. ✅ 👍
Food that are high in selenium and iodine are:
✅ Shellfish 🦐 🦪 🦞
✅ Grass feed meat (beef, chicken and turkey) 🐄 🐓 🦃
✅ Liver
✅ Seeds and nuts 🌱
✅ Legumes
✅ Mushrooms 🍄
I generally stay away from eggs and dairy because even though they do boast high levels of nutrients, they are equally inflammatory and problematic for people with autoimmune diseases. So I generally advise people to stay away from them day-to-day and if consumed, keep it at a minimum.
Who’s going to get a few more of these foods in their diet this week?! 🙋‍♀️🙋⤵️⤵️

This was my absolute favourite soup creation from last winter – CURRY CAULIFLOWER SOUP 🥣 It’s as delicious as it sounds and it’s thyroid healing!
Did you know:
➡️ Cauliflower – contain a trace mineral that supports the entire endocrine system. Don’t worry about the fad that cauliflower is a “goitrogenic” vegetable. You’d have to eat an insane amount of cauliflower to have any negative side effects.
➡️ Potatoes 🥔– high in lysine and tyrosine which make thyroid hormones.
➡️ Raw honey 🍯 – helpful in replenishing the thyroid.
➡️ Lemons & limes – improve digestion by raising the levels of “good” hydrochloric acid in the gut that fight off the EBV virus. They also help to cleanse the liver of toxins.
To make the soup, put all of these ingredients in your Instapot:
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 1 cauliflower, roughly chopped
- 3 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 cups of baby potatoes 🥔
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 cups of organic vegetable broth or bone broth
- 1/2 lemon, juice and zest 🍋
- 1 tbsp all-natural honey 🍯
- 1 1/2 tsp coriander
- 1 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1 1/2 tsp turmeric
1 1 1/2 tsp paprika
- salt and pepper to your taste
Soup toppings: chives, some grass-fed bacon and/or sautéed mushrooms
Set the Instapot to “sealed” and set for 3mon. You can also do this in your slow cooker by cooking on med heat for 6 hours. Once the veggies are cooked, blend in batches to get a nice smooth consistency.
Who’s going to try this one?!

We are officially half way through the first month of 2020! 💥 🙌 And have you stuck to your New Year resolutions?! 😬 Well if you’ve been slipping a bit (or a lot), don’t beat yourself up. Most people have a hard time sticking to self-professed goals. The topic of goal setting and achieving fascinates me and I did quite a bit of research on it last year 🤓and one simple idea rose to the top of everything that I read – it comes down to building HABITS 💪 to create change NOT setting goals or resolutions. Really let that sink in for a moment. 🤔
says, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” Mind blown. 🧠 💥 🥊
So another way to look at it is – the reward is really in the process of creating a new habit. Obviously creating some habits are easier than others but here are 3 tips that might help you build some new habits this year:
1️⃣ Know yourself and how you respond when someone “tells you what to do”. This will determine what kind of structure you need to build a new habit. Check out “4 Tendencies Quiz” to find your behavioural type
2️⃣ Try “habit stacking” – this is when you identify a good habit that you’re already doing at a certain time every day and tack on a new desired habit right afterwards.
3️⃣ Remember – consistency is king 👑 It actually takes 90 days to build a new habit (not 30 days which is a common belief) so don’t give up too early. Most people expect results too soon.
A great analogy by James Clear is imagine each time you do the behavior of a new habit that it’s a “vote” towards your future self. 📝 Some habits need 100 votes before the results show up, others need 50 and some only 30. But very new (if any) new changes need less than 30 votes. So you know you have to do the new change at least 30 times before expecting a return and DON’T GIVE UP! 💪👍
So all that said - what new habits are you looking to build this year?! 🤔 ⤵️

The thyroid is considered a master gland and in addition to producing crucial hormones, it also helps control the process of turning nutrients from food into useable energy that your body runs on. Because the thyroid plays such a major part in your metabolism, dysfunction can wind up affecting almost every part of the body, including your energy levels and ability to burn calories. 🙀😾
Other noticeable effects of hypothyroidism include moodiness and a sluggish metabolism. 😫Essentially when your thyroid is underactive your metabolism will slow down, which might mean you always feel tired or struggle to keep off weight. Your mood is especially susceptible to changes in hormone levels, so some people with hypothyroidism wind up dealing with depression, anxiety, trouble getting good sleep, and low immunity. The thyroid gland helps regulate chemical messengers called neurotransmitters that control your emotions and nerve signaling, which is the reason an out-of-balance thyroid can mean drastic emotional changes at times.
So taking care of your health is AS important as going to work, cleaning your house, repairing your car, or taking care of family members. When you start giving your health equal importance to all other tasks in our day to day lives – we start to see results! 🙌👍 Things like, symptoms reducing, energy levels up, better sleeps, and if the improvements are consistent over time – the results will KEEP improving 📈✔️ Autoimmune diseases don’t have to be a permanent part of life. They can be managed as opposed to managing you!
What are you going to do for your health today!! Share below as the ideas are inspiring! ⤵️⤵️
