Our team manages a 192-bed LTC home, among the busiest three Emergency Departments in the GTA and one of the highest volume single-site birthing centres in Canada (top five). We provide the best care possible for our patients and their families, and have proudly served our community since 1968. North York General offers a wide range of acute care, ambulatory and long-term care services at multiple sites. Our hospital is driven by an ongoing commitment to continually improve the services we provide to best meet the needs of our patients, community and employees. Affiliated with the University of Toronto, our hospital's strong teaching role is tailored to local needs with many academic and research links. We are preparing future physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to work as part of an interprofessional team that provides essential care in the community. We are the training institution of choice for many resident physicians. North York General is a member of the Central Local Health Integration Network. We’re proud to share that NYG’s inpatient stroke unit has earned the 2025 Best Practice Stroke Unit Award from Toronto Stroke Networks (TSNs) for the second year in a row.

TSNs are part of the eleven stroke networks within Ontario which advise and provide leadership to the stroke system of care in Toronto. This award recognizes the unit’s ability to meet the best practices of stroke care.

We are excited to join the Ontario Delirium Flag Campaign, led by the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto. This campaign shines a light on delirium awareness and celebrates incredible healthcare teams across Ontario who are working to reduce the impact of delirium on older adults. NYG’s work includes implementing a new quality improvement initiative to prevent and reduce hospital-acquired delirium, increasing awareness in identifying and preventing delirium, and standardizing care for the management of delirium.

Earlier this month, NYG held its bi-annual Service of Remembrance and Healing for Pregnancy Loss. For many families, this gathering offers a supportive space to grieve, reflect and honour the memory of their babies.
