Key Details of the 2025 Fertility Tax Credit
⚪️Refundable Credit: The credit is refundable, meaning you can receive it even if you do not owe taxes.
⚪️Amount: 25% of eligible expenses, with a maximum benefit of $5,000 per year.
⚪️Eligibility: Must be an Ontario resident at the end of the tax year and have paid for expenses (not reimbursed by private insurance).
⚪️Eligible Expenses:
- IVF cycles, IUI cycles, and fertility medications.
- Egg, s***m, and embryo cryo storage fees.
- Diagnostic testing and laboratory services.
- Travel expenses (over 40 km one way).
- Fees for surrogacy arrangements and donor gametes (egg/s***m) within Canada.

⚪️How to Claim the Credit
1. Gather Receipts: Ensure you have documentation for all out-of-pocket expenses.
2. File Tax Return: Complete the Ontario Form 428 when filing your tax return.
3. Claim Eligibility: Eligible expenses must qualify for the Ontario Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC).

Difference from Ontario Fertility Program (OFP)
⚪️Ontario Fertility Program (OFP): Government-funded IVF cycles for eligible residents under 43.
⚪️Tax Credit (OFTTC): Covers costs not covered by the OFP, such as medications and out-of-pocket costs for private clinics or alternative treatments.

Our Story

In 1983, a group of gynecologists at Toronto East General Hospital established the LIFE Program, Canada’s first program for the treatment of infertility using in vitro fertilization (IVF). The success of the team led to a marked increase in demand, not only in Ontario, but across Canada and internationally.
