In vitro fertilization (IVF) plays a vital role for those experiencing infertility. IVF helps millions of individuals and couples achieve their dream of becoming parents. Far more than a medical procedure, IVF offers real hope to people facing a wide range of fertility challenges and in many cases, it is the only path to having a biological child together.

IVF provides solutions for complex conditions such as blocked , , and male-factor infertility. It also enables of embryos, helping reduce the risk of passing on inherited conditions like cystic fibrosis. For individuals facing a cancer diagnosis, IVF makes fertility preservation possible before treatment begins. Additionally, it allows women to preserve their fertility and make informed choices about the timing of parenthood while pursuing education, careers, or personal goals.

At its core, IVF is about more than science - it’s about building families.

Our Story

In 1983, a group of gynecologists at Toronto East General Hospital established the LIFE Program, Canada’s first program for the treatment of infertility using in vitro fertilization (IVF). The success of the team led to a marked increase in demand, not only in Ontario, but across Canada and internationally.

Over the past 30 years, IVF Canada has achieved some of the most important Canadian ā€˜firsts’ in IVF:

  • 1st IVF pregnancy

  • 1st IVF twins and other multiples
