Health Alert: Air Pollution Can Raise Heart Risks in Seniors.
New research suggests that on days with higher
levels of air pollution—both directly from particulate matter and indirectly from ozone formed through
combustion—the risk of acute cardiovascular events (including heart attack and stroke) can significantly increase in
older adults and remain elevated for at least an additional day. These findings suggest that seniors with poor
cardiovascular health should avoid spending time outdoors on hot, sunny, stagnant days; during temperature
inversion events; and in areas affected by wildfire smoke. BMC Public Health, December 2025
Diet: Health Risks of Excessive Ultra-Processed Food Intake.
Ultra-processed foods are food products that
include added sugars, fats, and salt to enhance flavor and prolong shelf life. Current research suggests higher ultra-
processed food intake is associated with elevated risk of poor diet quality, overeating, and higher risks of chronic
diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, and early mortality.

Exercise: Tai Chi May Benefit Seniors with Insomnia.
For older adults with chronic insomnia, a recent study
found that tai chi—an ancient Chinese art that involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner
accompanied by deep breathing—provides similar benefits as cognitive behavioral therapy with respect to sleep
quality, mental health, physical activity, and overall quality of life. BMJ, January 2026
Chiropractic: The Breath–Back Connection.
Core muscle weakness is often observed in individuals with chronic
low back pain. While these muscles are commonly thought of primarily for their role in maintaining spinal stability
and posture, researchers note that they also play an important role in breathing mechanics and efficient oxygen
intake. Current research suggests that up to half of individuals with chronic low back pain may exhibit some degree
of restrictive respiratory dysfunction. Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapy, October 2025
Mental Attitude: Multilingualism May Slow Brain Aging.
A recent study that included more than 86,000 adults
across 27 European countries revealed that individuals who speak two or more languages—which straightens the
attention and executive-control networks in the brain—have brains that appear biologically younger than their
monolingual peers. The Conversation, November 2025
Wellness/Prevention: Digital Tools Help Kids and Teens Live Healthier Lives.
While excessive screen time has
been linked to worse health outcomes for children and teenagers, a recent study found that young people who use
wearables and apps aimed at promoting health habits are more likely to eat a nutritious diet, engage in physical
activity, reduce sedentary time, and maintain a healthy weight.
