A great question!!

Dry patches on a newborn’s face are really common, and most of the time they’re harmless. Here’s a simple way to understand what’s going on and what you can do.

Why it happens?
Newborn skin is adapting to life outside the uterus. Their top skin layer is thin, loses moisture quickly, and is still building its natural barrier.

What it looks like?
Flaky areas on the forehead, cheeks, or around the nose. Sometimes the skin looks a bit rough or reddish, but baby is usually not bothered by it.

How to help?
You don’t need anything fancy. A gentle routine makes the biggest difference:

1. Short, warm (not hot) baths
Limit baths to every 3 days. Water alone is often enough.

2. Use mild, fragrance-free products. If you use a cleanser, pick one made for sensitive skin.

3. Add moisture to the room
A cool-mist humidifier helps, especially in dry seasons.

4 Be gentle with wiping
Pat instead of rubbing. Use soft cloths and avoid frequent use of wipes on the face or picking at the skin

When to keep an eye on it?
Reach out to a healthcare provider if:
• The dry patches become very red, weepy, or crusty
• Your baby seems uncomfortable
• The dryness spreads quickly
• You suspect eczema and want guidance on managing flare-ups
