Let’s talk about !

Painful cramps, irritability, moodiness, acne.. sound familiar? SO many girls and women experience these symptoms every month, thinking it’s just a normal part of our monthly cycles.

Unfortunately, although it’s widely accepted and common, it’s not actually NORMAL to be feeling all of these symptoms with our periods.

Oftentimes, we’re put on birth control to mask our symptoms.

But why are we feeling this way? And are there any other solutions?

I’m here to tell you that there are other solutions. If you feel this way, let’s work together to get to the bottom of your symptoms and fix them for good.

How do visits with a work?

If you are interested in seeing our ND, but unsure of what the process will look like, we’ll break it down for you!

1. You have the option of booking a Free 15-minute Discovery call with Dr. Alisa Murli, ND to quickly discuss your health concerns and to see if pursuing care with her will be a good fit.

2. Book an initial assessment. Naturopathic care starts with a 60-75 minute initial consult, where we go through your health history in detail. Our ND will listen to your concerns and your health goals, and work with you on a treatment plan.

3. Follow ups! Standard follow ups are 30 minutes long, but longer follow ups are available as well. These follow ups are where we discuss your ongoing treatment/progress, and change the treatment plan as needed.

4. You’re done! Our goal at The Whole Care is to be able to work with you to reach your health goals. After we get there, you are finished treatment! Remember, we are always here should any other concerns come up.

Have you ever tried for medicinal purposes?

Maybe you have without even realizing. Have you ever used ginger for nausea? Peppermint for indigestion? Diffuse lavender to go to sleep? Aloe vera on your skin?

These are all common examples of what botanicals are used for. However, we can do SO MUCH MORE with them.

Here are a few of our faves and their studied uses:
• Ashwagandha (Latin: Withania somnifera) – studies have shown that ashwagadha is very effective in decreasing stress and anxiety. It has been shown to decrease cortisol (stress hormone) by as much as 27% in humans after 60 days.
• Vitex agnus-castus –There is strong research on the effectiveness of this herb improving the symptoms of PMS in menstruating persons. These symptoms include irritability, breast tenderness, migraines, cramping, and bloating.
• Spirulina – from blue/green algae, studies show spirulina to be very effective against allergies – particularly in decreasing nasal congestion caused by allergies.

It is VERY important to remember that even though these botanicals are widely available for purchase, the type, dose, brand, timing all matters. Each herb may not be suitable for your use based on many factors (including medical conditions and medication interactions). Please consult a Naturopathic doctor prior to using any of these botanicals.

Let’s talk about vitamins!

Do you know what’s in your prenatal?

Did you know that there are different forms of vitamins and minerals, which all are absorbed in different ways in our ? This means that our bodies can use certain forms more readily and effectively.

So, what forms of vitamins/minerals are typically best absorbed?
Here are a few examples:
* Vitamin B12: Methylcobalamin, NOT cyanobalamin
* Folate: 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (This is VERY important for pregnancy) NOT folic acid
* Iron: iron bisglycinate NOT ferrous fumarate
* Magnesium: magnesium bisglycinate, NOT magnesium oxide
* You also don’t want to have additional ingredients such as BHT, sucrose, maltodextrin, titanium dioxide, talc, any colouring (eg. Blue #2, Red #27) to name a few.

Take a look at your prenatal vitamins and see what’s in them.

Want to talk about why these forms are better and how they each help your body? That’s what we are here for!
