Somewhere along my journey, I discovered what would become one of the most powerful tools for regulating my nervous system: EFT tapping.
At first, I’ll be honest — it felt unusual. Almost too simple to be effective. But during one of the most vulnerable seasons of my life, after experiencing a miscarriage, I found myself overwhelmed with grief, emotion, and unresolved sadness. It was through a series of EFT sessions with a gifted midwife (who now practices in Mexico) that I witnessed firsthand how profoundly this modality can move stored emotion through the body.
EFT — Emotional Freedom Technique — is a gentle yet powerful practice that combines elements of cognitive reframing with rhythmic tapping on specific meridian points of the body. These points correspond with the body’s stress pathways and energetic channels. By tapping while acknowledging a specific emotion or belief, we send calming signals to the amygdala, helping to down-regulate the stress response.
Research has shown EFT tapping can:
• Reduce cortisol levels (the primary stress hormone)
• Support anxiety and PTSD symptom reduction
• Improve emotional resilience
• Help process grief, fear, and deeply held childhood imprints
• Regulate the nervous system in real time
How to begin:
1. Identify the emotion you’re feeling (fear, sadness, anger, overwhelm).
2. Rate its intensity from 0–10.
3. While gently tapping on meridian points (side of the hand, eyebrow, side of eye, under eye, under nose, chin, collarbone, under arm), repeat a grounding statement such as:
“Even though I feel this sadness, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
4. Take a breath. Reassess the intensity. Repeat as needed.
Often, what surfaces in adulthood as “triggers” are unresolved imprints from earlier experiences. EFT offers a way to meet those emotions with awareness, compassion, and physiological regulation — rather than suppression.
If you are seeking a supportive way to calm your nervous system and process emotion gently, EFT tapping may be a beautiful place to begin.
Healing does not have to be forceful. Sometimes it is rhythmic. Intentional. Soft.
