Procedure prep.
I just had all my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. It’s a little different in your 30’s than in your teens, so I hear 🥴. To be perfectly honest, I was QUITE nervous about it (spoiler: it was nowhere near as bad as I worked myself up for lol). But I’ve never had any kind of surgery before, and the thought of large teeth being forcibly removed from my mouth kept replaying in my mind. I was anxious. So I asked all my friends to share their stories (thank you pals, you know who you are), did some research on my sedation and pain management choices, got a fantastic oral surgeon 👌, and created a naturopathic prep and recovery plan for myself.
I chose to add specific supplements for wound healing, homeopathics for trauma and bruising, protein powder for recovery, and herbs for clotting, cleaning, and soothing.
Would my recovery be different without these things? It’s hard to say. There aren’t many clinical trials looking into these specific outcomes of care, but I can tell you that I surprisingly feel pretty great right now. Ice, Tylenol and Advil are helping big time of course, but having tenable things to do before and after gave me a sense of control over my recovery and my anxiety. Surgeries and procedures can be scary, and having the knowledge of what your body needs and the tools to support yourself may feel reassuring.
Not everyone’s circumstances or healing journey will be the same, so creating a custom strategy for preparation and recovery can be a helpful add-on to your naturopathic treatment plan.
A lot of elective surgeries are understandably on hold right now, but if you’ve got a big health event coming, feel free to reach out. ✨
