One of the most common things that accidentally makes anxiety worse:
Avoidance.
It provides short-term relief — but reinforces the idea that the situation is unsafe.
Over time, this can increase anxiety and make everyday situations feel even more overwhelming.
This might look like:
• Skipping school or activities
• Avoiding social situations
• Providing constant reassurance
• Removing discomfort too quickly
These responses come from a place of care — but can unintentionally maintain the anxiety cycle.
