📚 Green Path Picks

This pick comes from our therapist, Jen Hanson (MSW, RSW), who works closely with couples navigating trauma, relationship challenges, and intimacy concerns.

📖 Book Pick:
Desire: An Inclusive Guide to Navigating Libido Differences in Relationships

Why Jen recommends this book:
"Last year my focus in growing as a therapist was in learning more about how to support relationships who have experienced trauma, affairs or addiction. This year my focus has been on training related to s*x therapy! This book has been a wonderful addition to my learning, and I would recommend to anyone who is looking to learn more about s*x for thenselves or with partner(s).

Dr. Mersy & Dr. Vencil offer a trauma informed, easy to digest guide to better understanding intimacy, desire and relationship dynamics! They provide an excellent mix of education, helpful metaphors, and strategies! Whether you are single or partnered, this book offers excellent reflection to help you manage your relationship with intimacy!" — Jen Hanson

Healthy communication doesn’t mean never disagreeing. It means learning how to express your thoughts and feelings in a way that feels safe, respectful, and open for both partners.

Many couples struggle not because they don’t care about each other, but because emotions take over before understanding can happen.

Slowing down, listening with curiosity, and focusing on understanding rather than winning can make a big difference. With the right tools, couples can turn difficult conversations into opportunities for deeper connection and growth.

Our experienced therapists are here to help couples navigate these conversations and strengthen their relationship. 💚

‘Kids aren’t born thinking they’re bad. That’s learned.’

At Green Path Psychotherapy, we know how deeply childhood experiences can shape shame, self-criticism, and self-image.

In this episode of the Breaking the Silence podcast, host Sean McBride sits down with our director, Alexandra Canzonieri (MA, RP, CCC), to explore the hidden links between childhood trauma, regret, and unresolved emotional wounds.

Alex shares how shame often develops in childhood, the difference between guilt and shame, and how therapeutic approaches like EMDR, inner child work, and trauma-informed therapy can help clients reframe their experiences and reclaim self-worth.

She also addresses common misconceptions clients have about therapy and emphasizes the power of self-compassion and understanding in the healing process.

If you’re interested in learning how trauma can shape our inner narrative and how therapy can help untangle shame, build resilience, and foster self-worth, this episode is a MUST listen.

Progress does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it is getting out of bed when it feels heavy. Sometimes it is setting one small boundary, taking one deep breath, or choosing not to be as hard on yourself.

Growth is often quiet and easy to overlook, especially when you are comparing yourself to where you think you should be. But small steps still count.

Small shifts still matter. What feels tiny today can become something strong and steady over time.

Be gentle with yourself. You are growing, even if it is only a little at a time.

Overthinking can feel exhausting.

Your mind keeps replaying conversations, predicting outcomes, and trying to solve problems that have not even happened yet.

Most of the time, overthinking is not about weakness. It is about protection. Your brain is trying to prevent mistakes, rejection, or uncertainty.

The goal is not to shut your thoughts off completely. It is to learn how to notice them without getting pulled into every spiral.

In therapy, we work on building awareness, calming the nervous system, and creating space between you and your thoughts so they do not control your day.

You do not have to fight your mind. You can learn how to work with it.

It can be easy to feel like you should be further along, especially when life slows down or things feel quieter than usual.

But growth does not always look like movement. Sometimes it looks like rest, reflection, or simply getting through the day.

Mental health is deeply connected to seasons, and there are times when conserving energy is exactly what your mind and body need.

This does not mean you are stuck or falling behind. It means you are responding to your current season with care.

Give yourself permission to move at your own pace, honour where you are right now, and trust that progress can still be happening beneath the surface.
