🟡 Dry AMD Month: Protect Your Sharp Vision 🟡
Dry AMD (dry age-related macular degeneration) is gradual wear-and-tear damage to the central “sharp-vision” part of your retina, making everyday tasks like reading or recognizing faces harder over time.
What’s happening inside your eye:
Tiny yellow deposits called drusen form under the macula.
Over time, these deposits can lead to thinning and “drying out” of the macula.
In later stages, larger areas of macular tissue may stop working (geographic atrophy), creating gray or blind patches in the center of vision.
Dry vs. Wet AMD:
Dry AMD: more common, progresses slowly over years.Wet AMD: less common but more aggressive, caused by leaky blood vessels, can damage vision quickly, sometimes on top of existing dry AMD.
Why routine dilated eye exams matter:
A comprehensive, dilated eye assessment lets your eye doctor detect AMD early, track changes, and help preserve your central vision before significant damage occurs.
👁️ Tip: Early detection and regular check-ups are key to keeping your vision healthy!
