πŸŒπŸ‘οΈ Today we celebrate World Optometry Day 2026!

As a low vision optometrist, my purpose goes far beyond prescribing lenses. Every day I work with patients who have been told there is nothing more that can be done for their sight, and every day I get to prove that hope is never lost.

Low vision care is about maximizing every bit of vision a person has, restoring independence, and giving people back the moments that matter most, reading a book, recognizing a loved one’s face, and watching a sunset.

I am passionate about what I do, and I am honoured to give my patients the two most powerful gifts, sight and hope.

Happy World Optometry Day to every eye care professional making a difference, one patient at a time.

πŸ‘οΈ Can supplements actually save your eyesight? Part 2 is here! πŸ₯¬

Dr. Ana breaks down WHY what you eat matters, and when food alone isn't enough. Kale, spinach, broccoli... yes, they're powerful. But with today's farming practices, your greens might not pack the same punch they did 30 years ago. 😳

That's where the right supplementation comes in, think lutein, zeaxanthin & mesozeaxanthin for your macular health.

πŸ’‘ This is the info your eyes need.

Is zinc actually helping your eyes, or harming them? 🧬

Most people assume supplements are one-size-fits-all. They're not.
In my practice, 55-60% of patients I test should NOT be taking zinc, yet it's in almost every eye supplement on the market.

That's not a small number. That's the majority. πŸ‘οΈ

The MACURISK Test takes the guesswork out of it, so we know exactly what YOUR body needs, not what the label assumes.

Drop a πŸ‘‡ in the comments if you want to know more about how the test works and how to choose the right supplement for you.

When the macula is compromised, especially with early signs of macular degeneration, the initial casualty is often the protective macular pigment.

This vital layer relies entirely on carotenoids like Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Meso-Zeaxanthinβ€”nutrients sourced from green leafy vegetables and vibrant fruits.

Discover how a dietary gap in these elements can directly translate into frustrating symptoms like increased glare, decreased contrast sensitivity, and a noticeable drop in visual sharpness. Protecting the macula starts on your plate!

Navigating the sea of health supplements for peak vision and brain function can feel overwhelming! If you're worried about genetic predispositions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, optic neuropathies, or retinitis pigmentosa, what *really* moves the needle for proactive care? This insight cuts through the noise to reveal the critical role specific nutrients play. The key takeaway isn't about regenerating completely dead cells; it's powerfully supporting the cells that are still working but might not be functioning at their best. Essential knowledge for anyone serious about optimizing their cellular foundation for long-term eye health.

Did you know cod liver oil could be harmful for Stargardt's patients? 🚨

Dr. Juricic breaks down a crucial distinction, cod liver oil converts to Vitamin A in the body, which is very different from the omega-3s in regular fish oil. And for Stargardt's patients, that matters enormously.

Even more eye-opening? Many female Stargardt's patients noticed vision drops after pregnancy, and prenatal vitamins high in Vitamin A like Materna could be a contributing factor.

Know a pregnant patient with Stargardt's? This one's important. πŸ‘οΈ

Did you know people with severe Alzheimer's have almost zero carotenoids in the brain? 🧠

Lutein, zeaxanthin, mesozeaxanthin YES !! The same nutrients we talk about for eye health are now being directly linked to dementia and Alzheimer's.

And women? The risk is higher than we thought, and it's not just about living longer. Hormonal changes during menopause and chronic high cortisol are now part of the conversation. 🧠

This is why educating our patients early, especially women and those with macular degeneration, matters more than ever.

πŸ’¬ If they don't see the value, your prescription won't matter !

When working with low vision patients, we're not just prescribing devices we're prescribing hope, independence, and quality of life. ✨

But here's the key: patients need to clearly envision their improved end-state first.

πŸ‘οΈThe "island of better vision" approach? That's where transformation happens.

This is just ONE topic we dive deep into during my mentorship program, covering advanced refraction, prescription strategies that actually get used, and so much more.

Did you know Vitamin D3 needs a partner? 🦴✨

This is exactly what I talk about during my comprehensive low vision exams.

If you're taking D3, you NEED to be taking K2 with it.
Here's why

K2 keeps calcium in your bones where it belongs (not in your arteries or soft tissues where it can cause problems)
New research is changing everything we thought about bone health:

πŸ”Ή Used to be: "Take calcium for osteoporosis"
πŸ”Ή Now we know: D3 + K2 is the real power duo

This combo keeps calcium in your bones better than just taking calcium alone.

As part of my Low Vision Assesments I look at the whole picture. Nutrition, supplements, what YOUR body specifically needs to support your vision and overall health.

Because your eye health is connected to everything else. πŸ‘οΈπŸ’™
Taking D3? Make sure you're pairing it with K2!
