If you are postpartum and you’ve been experiencing thumb pain when feeding or while lifting your baby, you're not alone..
That sore, achy feeling at the base of your thumb? It’s likely Postpartum Thumb Pain (aka “Mommy’s Thumb”) and it’s a common condition caused by the repetitive, sustained positions we hold while caring for our little ones.
Here are 3 simple ways to care for your thumbs while you care for your little one:
✨ Try the scoop-and-lift technique by keeping your thumb closer to your palm and your wrist in a neutral position while holding your little one. Small shifts can make a big difference.
✨ Add in gentle mobility once pain begins to ease. As healing begins, your physiotherapist may guide you through pain-free thumb and wrist exercises to maintain mobility and gently build strength.
✨ You can wear a thumb spica brace to give your wrist and thumb the rest and ergonomic support they need especially during nursing, diaper changes, or when carrying your baby.
You don’t have to live with pain in silence.
At Vital, we’re here to support every part of your postpartum journey including your wrists.
