🌸Pushing on Your Side🌸
So, you’re telling me that pushing on your side is possible even with an epidural?
YES MAMA, I AM. And I’m also telling you that it’s one of the best things you can do for your pelvic floor.
How to use a peanut ball during labor is one of those fabulous little tips that you will get in a prenatal physiotherapy appointment
I’ve recently had many clients deliver in side lying with fabulous outcomes. The literature shows that giving birth on your side can:
1️⃣ Reduce the rate of instrument use during delivery (vacuum sand forceps use)
2️⃣ Reduce the time spent in the pushing phase of labor
3️⃣ Reduce the rate of injury to the perineum and tailbone as your sacrum/tailbone have room to swing out of the way as baby comes through the pelvic outlet
Going into labour feeling confident truly does influence birth outcomes in a positive way. Taking a prenatal class with us will provide you with knowledge and practical skills to instill confidence in your ability to birth and care for your baby. Everyone is welcome no matter where you plan to give birth.
Part of what we cover in a prenatal class includes practicing different labour and pushing positions to help you discover which ones feel most comfortable for you, as well as learning the pros and cons of common labour and pushing positions.
Part of labour and delivery prep with a pelvic floor physiotherapist includes optimizing birth outcomes by working together to employ the best birthing positions for you. Every woman will have her own birth plan, given specific orthopaedic conditions and medication preferences. That’s why each individual labor and delivery plan must be unique. Credit
What position did you give birth in?! What felt best when it came time to push?! Comment below!
