Just like we bring our cars to the mechanic and our bikes to the bike shop, sometimes the human body needs a bit of assistance. Baseball pitching naturally comes with a lot of muscular imbalances, so keeping the body healthy is key to a long career.

Acupuncture to the spinal muscles (aka segmental) can not only improve blood flow to the nerve and tissue in the area, but can improve the signal and strength elsewhere - from the quads, glutes, obliques and more!

SWIS Conference - first time attending!

With my fellow LINK colleagues, I had the chance to attend interactive workshops on all things sports medicine and strength training. Met several experts from various fields and brought back some ‘clinical pearls’ to physio sessions … with the goal of further promoting patient health and athletic performance.

Some workshops that I attended….

• Breathing Protocols for Sports

• Low Back Pain Assessment w/Dr. Stu McGill

• Menstrual Cycle Tracking and Charting Reproductive Health to Support Women’s Performance

• Energy Medicine

• Blood Work Analysis w/Dr. Eric Serrano

Here’s to continuing education with the goal of improving patient outcomes!

Reflecting on my time as an in-house physiotherapist at Canada’s National Ballet School on International Dance Day.

In addition to providing proactive and rehabilitative care during the day, I had the opportunity to offer emergency/injury care on performance days.

Here I am, equipped with the crutches, tape and bandaids all ready to go! Thank gosh I barely had to use them. The dancers at have been some of the most skilled athletes I have ever worked with!

Round 2! Was invited back to speak to nurses during another one of their education days.

Great questions from the audience, which included nurses from the urogynaecology clinics, special pregnancy program, and women’s health clinics.

What a fun way to wrap up a busy month of teaching!

Haven’t felt a wind like today since presenting for the Hot Topics event - right before this match!

Had the pleasure of being invited to be a part of the event’s guest panel, along with my fellow physiotherapy, orthopaedic and sports medicine colleagues.

Answered questions and took part in a discussion regarding movement as medicine, injury prevention, and acute injury care.

A great way to end the evening - witnessing an impressive goal by Toronto while standing behind the net with my fellow colleague at .

Summer 2023 has been sandwiched with teaching! One opportunity included being invited to speak on pelvic health to the nurses at

These nurses care for a wide range of patients in various clinics that focus on high-risk pregnancies, colposcopy, menopause, primary ovarian insufficiency, and urology-gynaecology.

Such a dynamic and passionate group. Looking forward to speaking at their next education day in a couple of months.

We’re 6 days away from our next hot topics event! Time to introduce our next speaker, Larissa Tutert 🏃‍♀️

Larissa provides physiotherapy care at the Dovigi Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Clinic, a multidisciplinary centre within Mount Sinai Hospital. She also created the Pelvic Floor Health Workshop for the hospital’s Prenatal Education Department, which she currently instructs to this day. In the past, Larissa treated elite dancers when she was an in-house Physiotherapist for Canada’s National Ballet School and also provided sports medical coverage for events such as Skate Canada, Toronto Marathon and Canada Cup Squash. In addition to direct patient care, Larissa has an academic appointment with the University of Toronto as an Adjunct Lecturer for the Department of Physical Therapy.

On days like today, it is an opportunity for me to reflect on all of the educational opportunities I have had thus far in my career.

So much more work should and could be done, both near and far, small and large. Yet, I am thankful for all the professional and personal support from fellow females (and human beings!) to this day.

A few shoutouts to some individuals in 2023 for their support!

Update! After 5.5 years of course after course, exam after exam, and studying in my free time…I can officially say that I am an FCAMPT (Fellow of the Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists)!

A lot of patients think that all sports medicine and orthopaedic PTs have the same level and type of training but it’s actually up to the physiotherapist to pursue advanced training. Between integrating refined assessment techniques to offering spinal joint manipulation/adjustments (chiropractors are not the only ones who perform these), I have learned so much.

Thanking all my instructors, mentors, family, and helpers along the way, and a special shout-out to these individuals during this last leg of the journey: Jason Cox, Melanie Gordon, Scott Whitmore, Michael Boni, Jared Bruce, Kyla Alsbury, Melanie MacKinnon, the Western University instructors (Jackie and Greg), Kate Gladney and Lenerdene Levesque.

And thanks to my patients for being so…patient (pun intended). They would always hope I’d say I took vacation when I was not in clinic…but nope, I was either at a course or at an exam (it was comedic at one point).

Here’s to not anticipating an exam for the first time ever … since high school!!

Myotomes, dermatomes, reflexes, oh my! FINALLY back to in-person teaching.

Really enjoyed assisting first year University of Toronto Physical Therapy students during their Cervical Spine Clinical Skills Lab.

Although students shadowed me in-clinic during the pandemic, all group learning lab sessions were on-line…until now!

Can’t wait to go back - and experience more déjà-vu!

Manipulative Orthopaedic Physiotherapy - and that’s a wrap on the very last day of the in-person courses…ever!

Today was the official last day of Level 5…but now onto written and clinical exam studying, mentorship, research critical appraisal, advanced exams…and then (hopefully) designation!

So grateful for the helping “hand” from all the amazing instructors during this last leg of the journey.

Finished the weekend getting a cavitation (the “sound”) on the very last lumbar spinal manipulation on my partner - I’ll take it!
