Memory lapses, vivid flashbacks, or feeling “stuck” in the past aren’t signs of weakness ... and in fact, they might be your body responding to narcissistic abuse.

Chronic relational trauma can hijack your nervous system and disrupt your memory, making it hard to feel safe or grounded, even long after the abuse ends.

In our latest blog, Registered Psychotherapist Vrushalee Nachar shares the research on how trauma reshapes memory, why your body stays on high alert, and practical strategies to reclaim awareness and safety.

Comment GUIDE to get our free e-book: Better Relationships, Better Mental Health

With Toronto city staff returning in January 2025 and banks like TD and BMO mandating four in-office days, it’s clear how widespread and challenging this shift is.

Returning to the office 4–5 days a week isn’t just a logistical shift; it’s an emotional one.

Change, even when expected, can stir up anxiety, frustration, or even anger. Long commutes, disrupted routines, and less flexibility can feel like losses. It’s important to name these feelings rather than dismiss them.

What can help:
Go back gradually when possible. Returning in stages gives your mind and body time to adjust.Acknowledge your reactions. Irritability, fatigue, or resistance are common signs of stress.Build recovery time. Small practices like short walks, mindful breaks, or connecting with supportive colleagues can reduce overwhelm.Stay compassionate. You’re not alone in this—many workplaces are navigating the same adjustment.
Big changes take time. Recognizing the emotional toll is the first step to adapting in a healthier way.

Feeling stressed about returning to the office? Share your experience or tips below — let’s support each other through the transition.
