Albert Caissie
1925 – 2025
On December 18, 2025, 100 year old Albert Caissie died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. He will join his wife in heaven, Celina Sylvina Caissie (Gallant), for their 75th wedding anniversary.
Born in Rogersville, New Brunswick Canada on January 12, 1925 to the late Cloris and Leonie Caissie (Maillet), he left school at a young age to help run the family’s farm when his father became blind in an accident. He ran a team of horses, raised cattle, and farmed his family’s land before enlisting in the Canadian Army during World War II. After the war, he moved home and worked on a two-man crosscut saw in logging camps during the winter and at home on the farm for the remainder of the year.
He married his wife Celina on December 26, 1950. He worked as a farmer and supplied the Pineau General Store with meat and produce from his farm and continued in logging camps during the winter months. During this time, Albert and Celina had three children, Alberta (Leo-Paul Richard), Daniel (Ginette Gallant), and Clairette (Ovila Vautour).
Albert moved the family to Gardner, Massachusetts in February 1964. There, he worked in various factories to provide for his family. Albert and Celina moved back to his farm in Rogersville in 1981. He worked as a woodcutter on his land in Rogersville and Acadieville until he retired. During retirement, Albert and Celina travelled throughout North America and Europe. He continued to cut his own firewood and tend a garden until he moved into Rogersville Village in his early 90’s.
Throughout his life, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. The freezers and root cellar were regularly filled because of his hard work. He spent much of his time reading, looking at maps, and most memorably through story telling. He was a proud member of the Canadian Legion for 80 years. Albert very rarely missed a Montreal Canadiens hockey game, being alive for 22 of their 24 Stanley Cups. He enjoyed his homebrew and evening nightcaps of gin.
He described his life as living through the “great change” and told stories about riding his horse into Rogersville, seeing his first zipper in a logging camp, and when electricity came to town. He loved to tease, especially his wife Celina, and had a wonderful sense of humor up until his last moments. His grandchildren looked forward to visiting Canada, spending time listening to stories, and taking the three wheeler (Big Red) to the back of the field. The longevity of his three wheeler is a testament of Albert’s longevity.
In addition to his wife and parents, Albert was preceded in death by his siblings, Armand, Alphonse, George, Paul, Rita, and Alice, and one daughter in law Ginnette Caissie. He is survived by one sister, Helena King, and his special friend Alice Roy. He adored spending time with his six grandchildren, Erin, Vicki, Forrest, Joshua, Joelle, and Robin; and cherished his nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Cecile Martin for overseeing care of Albert for many years, our cousin Dr. Michelle Casey who facilitated his end of life care, the Richard Family for their support and care, and the nurses and other support staff at the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program.
Calling hours will be from 9:00a.m.- 11:00a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the "La Colombe" Funeral Home, located at 11325 Route 126 in Rogersville. The funeral service will be held at Saint-François-de-Sales Church in Rogersville on the same day at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Albert has requested donations be made to the Rogersville Cemetery.
