A COVID-19 update from the entire healthcare team at the Institute of Movement.

It has been 2 weeks since we made the extremely difficult decision to close the office due to the unprecedented spread of this deadly virus. These are trying times across the globe, and for us locally, it has also been an extremely difficult time as we adapt to the ongoing changes and sacrifices we all need to make to keep our community safe, and our most vulnerable population healthy. We must remain unified to stop the spread of disease! If we adapt, sacrifice and respect the process together, we can limit the spread, and ultimately return to our everyday comforts sooner.

We would like to take a moment to let you know that we continue to monitor the local, national and global health crisis closely. Based upon the recommendations of our regulatory bodies and Health Authorities both Provincially and Nationally, we will remain closed due to the increased risk of community transmission. At this critical time, closure is the responsible health decision for ALL businesses that are not fundamental to daily survival. Unfortunately, this does put all of our local small business owners at great risk, and places dire strain on all of the employees who have been laid off through the threat of COVID-19. However, despite the financial discomforts, for the health and safety of our community we must make these sacrifices and place the needs of others before our own. It is our duty to nurture and protect the young, sick and vulnerable residents in our population. We urge our community to continue to respect the suggestions surrounding social distancing, self-isolating and minimizing physical interactions with others at this time in order to prevent the further spread of this highly communicable virus.

The health and safety of our patients and staff is our highest priority, and with this in mind, we will continue to closely monitor and follow all recommendations given by Interior Health, the BC Ministry of Health, BC Centre for Disease Control, Canada’s Public Health Authority, World Health Organization, and our professional regulatory bodies during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Chiropractors have been deemed by the Provincial Health Authority an essential health care service. This means that we are granted the privilege of being able to provide emergency and acute care for those most in need, however, does NOT imply business as usual. Normal business operations would perpetuate the course of this virus in our community, and negate the sacrifices and efforts we are all trying to make.

As a result, we would like to reassure you that we will continue to provide Chiropractic care to those in extremely severe and acute scenarios. In these circumstances we will be practicing heightened infection control standards above and beyond those laid out by our professional organizations. This includes disinfection of all treatment equipment and surfaces between each acute client, frequent cleaning of communal and high contact areas, physical distancing efforts with increased space between persons, limited time spent in communal areas, as well as wearing all required personal protective equipment. If you feel that your condition is impacting your ability to function in normal everyday life, and/or is significantly worsening, we will do our best to accommodate these cases. For everyone’s safety we require that each of these individuals is not exhibiting symptoms, not currently quarantined and not categorized in our most vulnerable demographic.

If you are struggling with pain or dysfunction but do not feel as though this is a severe health scenario, we are exploring the option of providing Telehealth video conferences for our patients that feel they may benefit from this type of care. In these challenging times, it is of the utmost importance to be able to self-manage our health to the best of our ability. As a team, the practitioners at in.MVMNT Sport I Spine I Wellness will be available to educate and coach you through self care strategies, and focus upon rehabilitation from the safety of your home. Many third party insurance companies, ICBC and WCB have all started a movement toward home care by allied professionals including Chiropractors. This means that if you have extended benefits, or have been in a workplace or motor vehicle accident, you will be covered for these types of appointments. Regardless of benefits of coverage, these appointments are available to all patients during this unprecedented time, and we look forward to supporting you in your health journey in whatever form we can. We will send more information on these opportunities shortly.

As soon as we are safely able to, we will reopen the new clinic to the public and we will once again look to provide the exceptional care that you have become accustomed to. We look forward to supporting your healthcare needs every way we can. We anticipate further announcements and guidance from government and health authorities on their response to COVID-19. We will keep you updated on any changes that we make to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients, staff, colleagues and community. Please reach out to our team at any time with any questions and concerns.

Keep well,

DR. SCOTT EMERY & the entire team at in.MVMNT.

Announcing the Institute of Movement

As the office has evolved, so has my multi-disciplinary team of health care specialists, and with that has come the evolution of our approach, methodology and belief system. As a result, the re-branding of the office has become paramount in defining what we do, and I am excited to announce our new brand and clinic, THE INSTITUTE OF MOVEMENT or as many of you may have already recognized in.MVMNT Sport Spine Wellness. This name better reflects the office’s treatment focus and our philosophies towards dynamic and integrated health. We have been designing a new website, and are looking forward to showing you our new look at www.inmvmnt.com this spring.

You may have also heard the most exciting change at play in 2020 is that we are RELOCATING! Soon the office will be moving to 1300 CEDAR AVENUE. I have been hard at work creating a more modern clinic with space that will encompass a contemporary treatment facility for all our practitioners, inclusive of a 500 sq ft rehabilitation, movement and education space. This move will expand our ability to treat patients more effectively and enable a greater focus and availability for both acute and sports injury, as well as rehabilitation and functional movement analysis. I plan to open the doors April 6, 2020 and am extremely excited about what I have created for the sake of the very best in patient care and healthcare practices.

This move is about our PASSION for helping you get BETTER, FASTER... so that you can continue to enjoy the activities you love. The changes we are making allow our entire multi-disciplinary team to provide a higher level of care to our patient base and allow you better access to practitioners with less wait times. Additional medical staff and extended clinic hours enables increased availability when you need our help the most.Starting in March, we are test driving our new hours. The office will now be open from 8 AM TO 7 PM MONDAY - FRIDAY and SATURDAYS FROM 10 AM TO 4 PM. Each day we have set aside multiple visits designated for acute care management for when you require immediate care. These emergency time slots are accessible on a first call first serve basis by calling in at 8 AM to secure one of the day’s reserved ACUTE CARE TIME SLOTS.Despite all these changes, you will still have access to all the great practitioners that have composed our multidisciplinary team up until now, including DR. SCOTT EMERY (DC), DR. STEPHANIE CHURCH (DC), KYLIE COLHOUN (RMT), ANDREA WILSON (R.TCMP), and DR. CHELSEA GRONICK (ND, PRP/PROLOTHERAPY).

In addition, I am also excited to announce the expansion of my team with several new practitioners and staff. My newest Associate is Rossland native, DR. EVA GIFFORD. She joins the clinic following her Doctor of Chiropractic education at my alma mater Western States. Eva completed her preceptorship under my guidance, and is now officially licensed and board certified by the British Columbia College of Chiropractors. Eva has proven exceptional clinical skill and patient care while working alongside me, and has already begun her education in Active Release Techniques and Rehabilitation methods used in the clinic by both Stephanie and Myself. I have the utmost faith in her capabilities, and am looking forward to her addition to my team. Her presence and availability will ensure that all patients, new and existing, can continue to receive the same great quality of patient care that they have become accustomed to, with added convenience.
