✨Different sandwiches on whole wheat, meats and cheese, bagels with cheese, fresh fruit, dried fruit, veggies, and mixed nuts (this is something they can have at school currently). Granola bars, a treat or two. I try to mix things up as much as is practical.
🌿We are a family of 6 (four kids all above the age of 9) and groceries are one of our larger expenses each pay-check so having an incredible array of different fresh fruits and veggies or other lunch goodies is not very plausible.
Sometimes the mixing up is in the way it’s served! Bagel bits instead of whole, rolled up sandwich meat and cheese cubes rather than sliced for cracker consumption etc. Finding some staples that are always enjoyed is nice and adding variety here and there with other things.
Buying the discount tagged items at the grocery store can actually help with creating variety without too much thought as generally there are different things each time! And I might be a broken record BUT throw away myths like “organic is healthier”, “packaged food is all bad for you” etc. Buy what you can afford and learn tricks to bumping up the “healthiness” of the food, remembering that eating is always healthier than not eating.
Building walls of stress and anxiety around food is also not healthy.
*Sorry I’ve been gone so long, some other things took priority for a bit but this is still important to me so here I am (I haven’t reeeaaaalllllyyyy left) with some changes in myself that will trickle down into R. Anne. R Holistics (nothing drastic 😉) more to come on that I’m sure, but for now, BACK TO LUNCHES!
…..seriously, it’s almost 6am and the time I get going on lunch’s 🙌🏻🥪
