As the holiday season quickly approaches, or for some it's already here, Counsellor Julie put together some thoughtful ideas. Here are 5 tips to help you stay well, stay healthy and stay grounded during the holidays.
1. Get comfy on a chair, the floor, or a cushion.
Let your shoulders drop.
Release your jaw.
Loosen your belly.
Take a slow breath in…
and a gentle breath out.
REPEAT as many times as you need to feel relaxed.
2. In a journal, reflect on these 3 things:
Things that bring me back to myself
Boundaries I want to honour
Small comforts I can realistically commit to
3. The 5-Senses Winter Reset (Somatic Grounding)
Steps:
Sight: Look around the room and name 3 things that feel “comforting” or “neutral.”
Touch: Hold or touch a winter object (pinecone, piece of ribbon, soft fabric). Notice texture, temperature, and weight.
Sound: Listen for the most distant sound… then the closest.
Scent: Find a holiday scent (orange slice, cinnamon stick, pine). Gently notice how the body responds.
Taste: A single mindful sip of warm tea or a small candy cane, noticing warmth, texture, and sweetness.
4. Remind yourself:
You do not need to “earn” rest.
You do not need to “deserve” peace.
You are allowed to take up space even during the busiest season.
5. Set boundaries:
* with yourself
* with your family
* with your friends
* with your time
* with your capacity
