We’re highlighting Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) this

How does it work?

The machine delivers electrical impulses through electrodes attached to your skin. This impulse triggers muscle contraction.

When is it used?

EMS is used to improve blood flow, reduce pain, and patients develop a brain-body connection. In post stroke patients, this modality can even be used for strengthening muscles!

What should I expect?

A slight “grabbing” feeling, similar to how it feels when you flex a muscle!

Shockwave Therapy (Available at our Bible Hill location!)

How does it work?
Compressed air oscillates a titanium ball in the cylinder, creating a pressure wave. This wave causes micro-irritation to the treatment area to restore muscle tone, increase blood flow and tissue cell metabolism. Shockwave therapy also reduces pain signals associated with the injury.

When is it used?
This modality is used for chronic issues such as tendonitis and calcifications. It may also be used on connective tissue and muscle trigger points, and/or areas with increased tension.

What should I expect?
A little noise! The machine is louder than others used in the clinic. The treatment is quick (about 2 minutes) but may feel intense, such as a massage trigger point.

Reposting to highlight this incredible program offered by Rath Eastlink Community Centre. Open to anyone with a medical condition, referral not required!

At the RECC, giving back to our community and supporting people through life’s challenges is at the heart of everything we do 💛

In 2024 and 2025, the RECC partnered with Calgary University to run the EXercise for Cancer to Enhance Living Well program, supporting individuals newly diagnosed with, undergoing treatment for, or surviving cancer.

While this program had an incredible impact, we recognized the need for ongoing support. This inspired the creation of the RECC’s “Strength and Resilience” class—taught in our main Fitness Centre—to empower members to take charge of their wellness journey and feel confident exercising anywhere. Many past EXCEL participants now attend regularly, work out independently, and even connect socially through the program.

A special thank you to Adrian, whose dedication and expertise made this program possible—he was involved in every aspect, ensuring it delivered meaningful results for participants.

The Strength and Resilience program is now a permanent class, offered twice weekly, and is open to anyone with a medical condition. While referrals from local healthcare providers are welcomed, they are not required to join.

This program has created an inclusive pathway for members with significant medical concerns, offering guidance, support, and the tools to safely and confidently build an exercise routine—helping them take control of their health and wellness. 💪
