Occupational Therapists (OTs) play a vital role in helping people regain independence and confidence in their everyday lives. From dressing, bathing, and preparing meals to returning to work or managing fatigue, OTs provide practical strategies and support to make daily tasks easier and safer.

Whether someone is recovering from an injury or illness, adjusting after surgery, or living with a chronic condition or disability, OTs focus on what matters most to each person. They assess individual needs, teach new skills, recommend adaptive equipment, and help people rebuild routines that work for them.

If you or someone you know could benefit from OT services, reach out to us at Physio One to learn more 📞902-843-4393

At Physio One, we often hear people say they stopped running to “save their knees.” But the science says otherwise!
Recreational runners actually have lower rates of hip and knee osteoarthritis (3.5%) compared to non-runners (10.2%). Staying active protects your joints — not the other way around.
👉 Keep moving. Your body was made for it.

No matter your age, your body can adapt and get stronger.
Even adults in their 80s and 90s can build muscle and strength through resistance training.
》 Strength training keeps you active, independent, and doing what you love — at every age.

Something Heather Hines, physiotherapist at Physio One, sees so often in the clinic — people with chronic patellofemoral pain (kneecap pain with stairs, hills, or squats).

👉 The problem? Most are under-loading the area. Over time, it becomes deconditioned and function decreases.

~What research shows:
Progressive loading over 6–12 weeks is key to recovery.
Hip + knee strengthening (like these bridges, side planks, and squats) works better than knee strengthening alone.

~If your knee pain has been around for a while, your body may have learned to “shut off” your quadriceps due to pain.
Using heavier weights isometrically (like in the wall squat pictured) can help re-activate the quad safely.

~Start with 5 reps of 30 seconds daily, in a pain-free range — and build from there!

Whatever your sport — pickleball, golf, running, or anything else — strength training gives you an edge.
Research shows high-load strength training (≥80% of your 1-rep max) improves endurance and performance in runners.
》 Get stronger to play longer.

As we “fall back,” remember that changes in daylight can affect your sleep, energy, and mood.
Keep your body in rhythm — stay active, get outside during daylight hours, and keep your routine consistent.

At Physio One, local isn’t just where we are — it’s who we are.
♡ We’re proud to be the only multi-clinician, locally owned physiotherapy clinic in Colchester County. That means when you visit us, you’re not supporting a head office in a larger province or city — you’re supporting your neighbors, teammates, and local families.
♡ We rely on and collaborate with so many incredible local businesses, youth athletes, and community groups — the same people and organizations that make our town stronger every day. From the printing shop that creates our materials to the athletes we help get back in the game, every connection matters to us.
♡ We also want to thank our patients for their patience. 💚
♡ We know that sometimes waiting an extra day or two for an appointment can be tough — but please know that every appointment and every person truly matters to us.
♡ We’re grateful to be Truro’s provider of choice and remain committed to giving back by staying local, supporting local, and helping our community move and feel its best — together.
