Sunday Thoughts: Christians down play the importance of their roles in physical health and white wash it as faith, but is it Biblical?
So often we see this example where people are praying God heals their ailments, but they've yet to put any effort in. It could be a cold, flu, high blood pressure, diabetes... and we look faithful saying "God will heal me". Can he miraculously? Yes, he has, he does, he will continue to when he sees fit. HOWEVER we know from the Bible that this is not the primary way he works to answer our prayers.
1) God is a God of structure, organization, systems, not chaos. He very often works within the intricate structure he's created. He gave us the knowledge about our bodies, about herbs, about food. He gave us the resources in plants, animals, touch, ect.
2) God made us in community, in the image of the original perfect community (the trinity), then into community with man & woman, then families... then reinforces community with loving your brother, neighbor, even your enemy. We're not meant for solo.
God is likely answering your prayer for health through providing the ingredients you need and providing the people who understand it to help you. Even in the Bible we see usually God's answer to prayer involves the people taking action. God promises land and tells the people to go to war. God promises a wall will fall and tells the people to march. God involves us.
So sitting there sick only praying is like the person who prayed to escape the flood while God sent a car, a boat, and a helicopter. Don't quit praying, but let's not try to make God answer the way we want to see when his answer may be in your finger tips.
