🤎Share with another mama friend🤎

Every baby is unique, with their own distinct personality, temperament, and developmental pace. What works for one baby may not work for another, and that's what makes parenting so fascinating. While books and experts can provide valuable guidance, it's essential to remember that they're just that - guidance. The most important thing is to tune in to your baby's individual needs and respond accordingly.

Relying too heavily on books or rigid parenting philosophies can lead to frustration and disappointment. Every baby is different, and what works for one family may not work for another. By paying attention to your baby's cues, you'll begin to understand their unique rhythms, preferences, and communication style. This intuitive approach to parenting allows you to respond in a way that's tailored to your baby's specific needs, rather than trying to fit them into a predetermined mold.

Trust your instincts and trust your baby. They'll tell you what they need, if you're willing to listen. By going with the baby, rather than the book, you'll cultivate a deeper understanding of your child's individuality and develop a more empathetic, responsive parenting style. This approach may not always be easy, but it's incredibly rewarding. So, ditch the rigid rules and expectations, and instead, embark on a journey of discovery and connection with your unique, one-of-a-kind baby.

Your water breaking usually isn't this big dramatic event like its shown on TV, where you have a big gush and have to try to make it to the hospital in time. Did you know your water breaking before your in labour is actually very uncommon. Most womens water will only break when their already in labour, or baby is about to be born!

When you get in touch with your provider they will most likely ask you these questions. So using the T.A.C.O acronym is a great tool to remember what to take note of.

🕗TIME: take note of what time your water broke. Most providers like you to deliver within a certain timeframe once your water has been broken.
💦AMOUNT: was it a gush or just a trickle? The amount of fluid can depend on baby's position.
🎨COLOR: does it have a slight color to it? Or a clear more cloudy looking? If it's clear or slightly pink tinged, that's great! But if it's green or brown, baby may have their first p**p (meconium) in utero.  Your provider may want to keep a closer eye on baby's lungs after their born.
👃ODOR: does it smell like urine, or is it odorless? This is a good way to determine if it's actually your water or just urine. If it doesn't smell like anything it's most likely amniotic fluid and if it has a urine smell, well that's urine then.

Your water breaking may mean a few more hours/days of labour or baby's about to make its way out. Either way, it's a good sign that things are happening and your so close to meeting your bundle of joy🥰

‼️Seek help ASAP if you notice:
•less fetal movement
•blood loss
•a fever
•your preterm (before 37 weeks)
•you feel like somethings off (always trust your intuition) ‼️

"NO" is a complete sentence!!

Sometimes the reason behind an induction just doesn't quite add up!

✨ #1. If there's holidays or weekend coming up and your being pushed for an induction, it could be because your care provider just wants those days off
✨ #2. Just because your a first time mama doesn't mean your body won't go in to labour on its own. When baby and mama is ready, labour will start. Whether your at 38 weeks or 42 weeks!
✨ #3. Your due date is an 'estimated' due date. 40 weeks is not a deadline for your pregnancy
✨ #4. Just like ultrasounds give you an estimated due date they, can give you an estimated weight/size of baby. Many mamas deliver a healthy 6lb baby whne the ultrasound told them they'd have a 9 pounder. Or the ultrasound can tell you your having a 6 pounder, but when baby's born it's 10lbs, so you can never really know until baby's here.
✨ #5. When a Dr tells you, 'your body won't go into labour on its own' at 40 weeks, just because your a first time mama, or you've not dilated, that simply just means your body's not ready!

Follow for part two on why you SHOULD go ahead and book that ultrasound.

Can prodromal labour turn into real labour?

Yes it very well can, it can even be early labour. But it can also take days or even weeks until real labour will start.

What causes prodromal labour? There are several potential contributing factors:

• The position of the baby: you may be more likely to experience prodromal labour if your baby isn't in the right position. The theory is that the uterus contracts in attempt to move the baby for a period of time and then stops if it doesn't work.
• Physical factor: An uneven pelvis or uterine abnormality may lead to these contractions
• Feeling anxious or afraid: Apprehensive emotions either about your pregnancy or other things happening in your life may cause prodromal labour
•History of previous pregnancies: This may be related to the way your uterus changes or relaxes after multiple pregnancies.

Here are some ways to manage prodromal labour:

•go for walks
•staying upright (gravity is your best friend)
•using a birth ball
•getting a chiropractor adjustment
•staying hydrated
•nourishing your body to keep energy levels up

Prodromal labour usually doesn't cause baby any distress but if you are concerned, always contact your care provider✨

How do I know if I'm having Braxton hicks contractions or labour contractions? A common question most first time or even second time moms face.

What are Braxton hicks?

Braxton hicks are caused by the tightening and relaxing of the muscle fibers in the uterus. They may start as early as your first trimester, but you'll probably only feel it in your second trimester or later. Or not at all. You'll feel your uterus, lower abdominal area tighten or squeeze, and then relax. Some women perceive them as the 'baby balling up' and some note a change in the shape of their bellies during a braxton hick. They may happen randomly throughout the day, when your dehydrated, when your bladder is full, during or after physical activity or s*x. They may be uncomfortable but not unbearable and have no regular pattern.

Their also referred to as practice contractions or prodromal labour since your body is in training and preparing for labour. (I'll make a future post about prodromal labour yet).

Can I make Braxton hicks contractions go away?

Yes you can! Changing positions sometimes helps, drinking a cup of water may help since braxton hicks can be caused by dehydration. Getting in a warm bath or shower for up to 30 mins, or even just emptying your bladder helps.

How does that differ from labour contractions?

Labour contractions, also cause your uterine muscles to contract but they help your cervix to efface and dilate (thin and open). Which Braxton hicks don't do. Labour contractions will come at regular intervals and over time they'll get closer together. They will last anywhere from 30-90 seconds and won't go away if you switch positions, get in a shower or bath. You may also show other signs of labour if it's the real thing.

If your still unsure, always make sure to contact your care provider for questions or concerns.

There's no need to feel like you need know it all.

You just met eachother, there's no way you can know everything about them in the first day, month or even year.

It's ok and normal to feel overwhelmed but know your not alone, and you can ask for help.

Amazing, isn't it?

First off, share with a friend who might also not know this!

Every newborn has the amazing ability to find its mothers breast and start suckling, almost immediately after birth.

You might be thinking 'how? They just barely made it eartside, how do they know how to do that?'

If you place your baby on your chest or stomach as soon as their born, and wait patiently, eventually the baby will scoot their way towards the ni**le, and latch on their own! They do this by moving their legs as if stepping or by pushing upward in tiny movements with their arms. It can take baby up to an hour, and it can last for up to 30 days.

Since they've been surrounded by, smelling and tasting amniotic fluid for the last 9 months, they naturally want to go to what feels and tastes familiar to them because it makes them feel safe. Which is what even we as adults still do when we're stressed or want to feel safe.

When they do the crawl, all of its 5 senses are at work. Baby can see contrast, so they can see and smell your ni**les and find the direction to them. They can hear your voice and heartbeat, while laying on your body.

How many of you reading this, also are fascinated by this? 😮
